McShane has made a fortune playing up his dodgy rogue character! Pity Jason "2x4" Statham is starring.

I think it looks very good and early word is that it's a damn good film. Early test screening were all very positive with many genre journalists scoring it very highly. While the original remains one of the best 70s film you're ever likely to see the remake looks more like a 90 minute explosions and death film and there's nothing wrong with that. Just pray it's not as bad as the original sequel.

Have to agree with Darko, this looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. The only problem is THEY GAVE AWAY THE ENTIRE F*CKING PLOT!!!!!!! Granted, in this kind of film, it's not too bad, but seriously, they could of at least tried to leave a little suspense in there.

Heh, isn't it awful when they hire a writer to come up with a screenplay for this and then just throw away the whole ten minutes he'd spent coming up with the plot by having a "revealing" trailer?

I doubt it'll matter too much, this film looks like being the kind of genuinely fun popcorn action flick that Wanted isn't. Which means that also unlike Wanted, I'll actually pay to see this in a cinema.

I got the original free on VHS when I bought Carmageddon on pc years ago. Both great stuff. :)

The new one looks like this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443473/ with cars.

I bet the political satire of the original is all missing too. ;)

Jebus, trailers are getting pretty ridiculous these days, arent they? I mean, I loved the 70's original, as a result I have very little intention sullying its memory by watching this turd... but the entirety of the plot and the majority of the action scenes appear to be in this trailer right there.

I hated it in Ironman, in the middle of the cinema some of the really very funny scenes come on and the whole place is silent. Simply because we had all seen it before.

Really frustrating. Just another reason for hollywood to DIE! I guess :o

Looks really fun. Im kind of glad they gave away the 'ZOMFG the cops set him up!!!' twist in the trailer, rather than try to be clever and hide it but ultimately fail.

I have to admit, the marketing for Iron Man was absolutely ridiculous in that regard - I don't think there was a single action sequence that wasn't at least partially shown in the trailers.

I'm guessing that this film, however, is going to be thin on plot and thick in tasty and nutritious Action Scenes, Car Chases, and hopefully featuring your recommended daily dosage of Big Explosions (TM). As I said above, if the plot has been given more than about 10 minutes thought I'll be surprised - this isn't the kind of film that really needs or benefits from an intricate and nuanced plot. It's an excuse for cars with big guns attached, and I for one am looking forward to it.

(As for the original, I'm not sure how one can tarnish a film if it's crap to begin with...)

Love the original so I know Im going to hate this bastardised version regardless of how many positive reviews it gets. The fact that Jason "i have the charisma and screen presence of a bag og cement" Statham is in it means its going to suck even more.

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO for remakes (mostly)

Hang on a minute, are you seriously trying to say that the new version will be worse because it stars Jason Statham when the original had Sly Stallone in it? Maybe it's down to not seeing it when it came out originally (what with not having been born yet at that point) but I've seen the original Death Race and, well, saying it's aged poorly would be a generous way of putting it....

I suspect the difference is that DR2000 was a campy black comedy with exploitation dressings (Paul Bartel wanted it to be more of a comedy than Roger Corman who saw drive-in dollars first) and Stallone was prefect material, Statham is more likely to be a straightforward bore.

Gotta admit the original is fairly silly. Entertaining but silly.

I don't see what the problem is.

Ah, give Statham his due, he's not exactly a great actor but he's decent enough in action flicks. I doubt it'll be as good as Crank, but I hope it comes reasonably close.

I'm still struggling to believe that Stallone hamming it up in a dated b-movie is being held up as somehow inherently superior to Statham playing the same character he always plays in action films...
