Hi I was just wondering after reading someone mention being rid of digidesign once and for all in another thread, what is the problem with them? I was considering buying with them today and I would like to hear peoples opinions on this. Thanks

as i was the person mentioning them, i'll explain what i meant.
btw, this only refers to the PTLE side of things. Pro tools HD is still the king for that kind of stuff.

Digidesign were in my opinion great for a few years, but the obvious things annoyed me - being so limited interface-wise, lack of plugin delay compensation.

But unlike most successful companies, Digi ignored the obvious features they could have introduced in later versions (most likely to stop HD systems becoming redundant - CPU speeds meant the dsp cards weren't entirely necessary for a lot of work in audio anymore).

Then the 003 stuff came out and the only real difference was the addition of Word clock. Not exactly a company progressing, is it?

I guess since my recent enough conversion to Logic, I sort of feel like PTLE is sort of a thing of the past.
Mentioning in my post about getting rid of my mbox (althought the s/pdif input is handy) was merely in reference to getting an apogee duet.

    Hope that clears it up.

Yeah that is fine, thanks.I was just reading through here to get some ideas before I went and bought anything really.
Well I am pretty new to this all and I was considering buying the mbox 2 just for using at home really. Would you not recommend it?

if you feel you want to go the protools route (and it's not a bad route to go at all), you can't go wrong with the mbox 2.

    you on mac or pc?

This is so true. I was happy to hear about the 003r and was thinking when i launch the new studio I'll upgrade, but after seeing it, no way. Whats the point.

HD is a fab system if you can get the funds for it. Some of the logic setup are seriously good. I've started to see a Yamaha Ls9 in a live working band and its bloody amazing piece of kit...so now I've been looking at some of the Yamaha studio consoles...

PTLE is a good starting point, but Digidesign need to get there LE gear up to speed with other systems. Even limited the track count to 32 tracks and to bring it to 48 you have to spend another 400euros!!

    There being left behind.
