    Hi there,
I went to see a physio today after work and basically they told me everything i already knew. I've tight hamstrigs, hip flexor and siatic nerve needs work. They advise me to see them once a week for the next 6 week.

I've been already doing some work on these area trough streaching etc .

Would streaching alone help in this case or would i need to go through the treatment from a physio..

You want advice from boardsies? Go with your physio's advice.

There are some things that stretching can't sort. This is probably what the physio is getting on about. Stuff like scar tissue and so on.

the one thing I would say is that I have never been to a physio who didn't think it'd be a good idea for me to go back as often as possible..

I have heard that from other people copacetic, although in fairness in my experience, the physio told me after 2 sessions not to come back unless I felt I needed to and this was after quite a bad injury. She said once she has gotten rid of the scar tissue I could do the exercises etc independently and see how things went, then come back in a few weeks only if I felt I needed it. I guess it depends on the individual like a lot of things.

yep, I was prob a bit harsh, you just have to find one that works for you. Ideally finding someone through friends in the way to go. There is usually more than one physio attached to or a member of every running club..

Thanks for all the info , i'll prob give it a few more session to see how it goes, i've no major injury at the moment , well shin splints but they are almost gone now, was jsut worried about my calf etc as after any race it take me 2-3 days to get back into training.

Had the GAIT analysis done today and picked up a new pair or runners, my old pair were not giving the support i needed. Also picked up a pair of skins, well just the calf support type should help the shins get back to 100% i hope, anyon used them... going mad here havent ran for 3 days now (been sick, but the rest has been good too).

haven't use the skins but a friend wears similar ones for the marathon in Ironmans and thinks they help a lot. Consider them or the tights to sleep in/wear after long runs, apparently they can make a difference according to various people I know who have tried them..

Yep i've been told you can use them if injured too, i've stuck them on now, odd feeling indeed.. but i'll give it a try..

silly question I expect but, what are 'skins' as a matter of interest?

Well i supose they are a pair of tights... mine jsut cover my calf, give extra support and is said that they help in the remove of lactic acid from the legs, and improve blood flow. Ran in them today, but shouldnt have gone out, was dead after a mile, guess i'm not over the cold yet.

I have been running for a few years now - and I still wear a pair of shorts that I got in 1998 - and they're for swimming in! I wonder is it time to move up..!
