Really really need to slow it all down and stay in balance, constantly getting to quick and arms moving ahead of everything, how do people work on their timing etc?

i have a tendency to go to fast. To try and prevent this, for my practice swings i now stand behind the ball with my feet together and swing quite relaxed. If you swing too fast you will lose balance and could fall over. It helps me achieve a decent rythym.

The Faldo drill, though it's not necessarily aimed at helping your timing, I always find helps me slow down and swing smoothly.

It's easy - you just address the ball, swing half way back til the club shaft is paralell to the ground and stop. Faldo intended (I think) for this to be a way of checking the club is on line on the way back - it should be dead on your target line when you stop.

Anyway, when you stop you can check your line if you choose or just keep your eyes on the ball. Either way, you start the swing again from that position and hit the ball.

So it's - Take Away - Pause - Lift to Top and Hit

Something about the pause just gives me the feeling that you dont need to frantically swing the club.

Similarly, You can change the pause to the top of the swing and hit from a still position. Whatever works.

Then there's the "one, two" thing the pros all seem to use.

I know what you mean lads, played today and felt so bad over the ball,it was like i never held a club before. Then to top it all it started lashing rain after seven holes.
