Going inter railing on the 21st of July and should be in Berlin the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, leaving the Saturday. Anyone ever stayed in this place? there's 7 lads heading so we are thinking of booking an 8 bed dorm. Is the hostel situated centrally in the city or is it on the outskirts? Looks like a cool place from the pics but they can be deceiving. So has anyone got any thoughts of the place? Cheers:)

Pretty central, and got a good mention from a friend who stayed there - and he's pretty picky when it comes to hotels/hostels etc

11 of us went interrailing last oct and stayed here for the 2 nights when we were in Berlin. Best hostel on the trip by a HUGH mile. you won't be disappointed. and if you are...then don't stay in hostels period. this is the closest thing to a hotel you'll get. room and A1 and its cheap. Got and bar and restaurant...although i did'nt eat from it while i was there.

great spot in total. make sure you do a few tours when your there. Berlin is Savage.

    Howdy All,

Quick question, Heading over to Berlin on July 12th (Sunday week) and just been told we need to stay in a hostel for a couple of days before we can kip in our mates apartment. Just checking might anyone know would it be ok to just arrive at the generator on the day and presume it'll be ok to stay there. I know its silly question as none of you could possible know for definite but at a guess do most inter-railers just arrive at hostels or have they them booked well in advance ?

generator was packed to the rafters when i was there but that was over the new year period so thats to be expected, its a huge hostel though

just looking at hostelworld http://www.hostelworld.com/availability.php/Generator-Hostel-Berlin/Berlin/2163 for that date and they have everything available for july 12 and the days after so you should be safe enough, just don't go there on the 11th as everything seems to be gone for that night

I love Berlin and have stayed in a few places. Generator is OK. good beds but the building is a bit dated and the bar closes early. Baxpax in kreuzburg is lovely. They have themed rooms, I stayed in the German room which has a VW beetle car which you can sleep in!:D
But by far the best hostel is Wombats! the have a WomBar on the 7th floor which lets you look over berlin, their happy hour has €5 pitchers of beer too.(German beer is the BEST) it is also central and easy to meet people.

    enjoy your trip!

Agreed. Nice and clean. And cheap. Also good connection as on 2 different train lines.

Also agreed! Preferred here to Generator. Kreuzberg is pretty "East" Berlin still, has a lot more character than most of the city. Hostel is small and cosy, yet the rooms more spacious than at the Generator. Beside train stop. Also, little turkish shop beside the entrance to hostel has internet for something silly like 80c an hour.
