This is sure to start an argument but here goes! :)

Just watched the Diving Bell and the Butterfly last night. Great film I thought. Besides engaging with the emotions, I thought it was visually stunning also. The camera angle as the POV of the main protagonist I thought was very effective and made me empathise with the man. We hear about somebody having a stroke all the time but we never think about the effect it has on the loved ones (Well, I don't, as it has never happened to somebody close to me).

Very well made and powerfully moving film. Anyone else have anything to add?

Yeah, I agree, it was great.

Some may feel that there was little drama or excitement in it but this just highlights the banality of such an existence.

In real life, there is still a battle going on with regard to the rights to the story. You should google it.

Didn't think much of TDBatB at all.

The adaptation of Dalton Trumbo's book "Johnny Got His Gun" is a far superior movie on a similar subject matter. Check that out instead.

"Don't you have some message for him doctor, "He's a product of your profession...not mine"

"Inside me I'm screaming, nobody pays any attention. If I had arms, I could kill myself. If I had legs, I could run away. If I had a voice, I could talk and be some kind of company for myself. I could yell for help, but nobody would help me."

"When it comes my turn, will you want me to go?

Ive a question about Mathieu Amalric who played Jean-Do. Didn't he play Louis in Spielberg's film Munich in 2005?

finally got to see this film on Friday night, really liked it a lot. thought the music used was great, U2's 'Ultra Violet' and just listening again to Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros 'Ramshackle Day Parade' being played over the closing credits..

Thought that myself coming out of the Cinema after seeing TDBatB. I'm not too sure though. I really liked the surrealist nature of "Johnny.." and I think I was expecting more of that with "Diving.." (based on previews). But I think "Diving..." captured the reality of the situation better. But that dosn't neccasirily make a better cinematic experiance.

I adore pretty much everything about this film, but yeah the music does stand out. My favourite bit is the Lourdes sequence with Don't Kiss Me Good Bye by Emmanuelle Seigner playing: fantastic atmosphere.

The bit of this film that stood out for me is the scene with the maintenace man cracking jokes at the expense of Mathieu Amalric's character in the hospital room. It seemed to ram home all he had lost but yet the man still had a sense of humour.

I attempted to watch this a couple of weeks ago.

I guess i just wasn't in the mood for that type of movie at the time, the POV really bugged me and i also found it quite unrealistic (although how realistic can you get trying to imitate the vision of one eye from someone who can't move). I found how he talked to himself irritating and just lost interest very quickly and ended up turning it off before even reaching the mid way point.

I will give it another go though.

*edit* the speech therapist was friggin hot though!!
