    Expect it to be hot!

I have not found any no-go areas in Budapest, but some of the outer areas are places you might not want to go because they are not very attractive. It's a safe city. You can find some of my experiences at my website: http://www.iol.ie/%7edraoi

It's a great place, full of interesting things to see and do.

[It is the only place where I have ever happened on the making of an erotic film!]

It is, by-and-large, a beautiful city but you can wander a bit sideways and end up in run-down, poor, downtrodden areas, but then, that goes for any other city. Just in Eastern Europe it can be a bit worse due to what Communism did and the heat does. Anyway, I've been 4 times so know quiet a bit about the place.

Walk along the Danube at night and at day, it is truely one of the most stunning and breathtaking city walks in Europe.

If you're there between the 12th and the 18th, spend one day at Sziget. It's one of the biggest music (and everything else) festivals in Europe if not the world and is amazing and cheap. I've been 3 times and am going again this year.

Try Palinka, Hungary's national shot, think the cherry & honey is the nicest.

There's two open air nightclubs on the Buda side I think called Sol Pardon and something else. They're both full of tourists and mental, but I seem to remember the other one being a bit cooler.

Go to the baths in the park, they're meant to be the best. I'm not sure of the name of the park but we called it something like Shezni. It's spelt something like Szeghni.

I'll try and get you the details of the two hotels I stayed in last year and the correct spelling of that park...

    The baths are called Szechenyi.

There are plenty of hotels in Budapest at all sorts of price/quality levels. But you might also consider apartments, as there are plenty available for holiday lets, and they are generally far better value.

try these apartments www.aboriginal-budapest-apartments.com . We stayed there- really modern & nice, just off andrassy st.- one of the main streets & a world heritage site. They are a really good price- about 60 euro a night. They have wahing machine, cooker everything and in a great location. There is a metro stop two mins away and liszt ferenc is sbout 5 mins away & full of restaurants & bars. Enjoy- its a really great city!!
