Campsites France, Can I just turn up??

Is it advisable to book beforehand a campsite (tent ), in France during August, or could I just turn up on the day? Anyone have any experience?? Cheers

for any of the bigger sites in deffo advisable to book in advance

we did go to a smaller one and just show up a few years ago and that was ago too-we stayed in one of our own tents that time so we were realy just renting the plot but if your planning on staying in a mobile i would book it in advance!
