Its usually free in and you can get very close to the play. Went to it a few years ago when it was held at St Margarets. Worth the trip just to see how they handle one of the very best courses around.

My son will be caddying for one of the pro's.

He is hoping for a good run for his player as the prize fund is €70,000 and that's not exactly chicken feed to a lot of pro's in this country.

He's also hoping that his group will contain some good players, maybe even Harrington.

Definitely worth going to as the access to players will be easy and relaxed and remember that the golf will be good. Harrington has won it 4 times but had to play-off 3 times and only won the fourth on the 18th and final hole.

Is the field finalised yet and if so is there somewhere I can see it ?

I will be there as a few of my pals are playing in it.Free to get in.The prize fund is alot less than normal as they were really struggling for a sponsor until Ladbrokes came in at the last minute.

Our lad from South County, Barrie Trainor might be one to keep an eye on. He's won 4 pro-ams already this year and been in the top 3 a couple more times. I played 9 with him the other week. Not awesomely long or anything but really impressive short game. If you're going down to learn something you could do worse than watch him chip and pitch - if he misses a green that is! ;)

I think I am going to try and head down on Fri as need a short week in work...

Harrington a good few back at the moment. Bit unlucky that he was out so early. The later guys seemed to get it much easier.

Anyone see any of the action today?

I was down there earlier today it got very foggy about 3 o clock and play was suspended. Harrington and Darcy are the leaders in the clubhouse. In fact no-one ahead of them on the leaderboard has completed more than 9 holes.
With the course playing as hard as it is and the weather forecast not helping I reckon Harrington is in prime position.
You can get the scores through the Irish PGA website.

Very good player. Played against him in Barton Shield just before he turned pro and they hit us with 8 birdies in the round...in foursomes

    Final results:

    Harrington +1
    Walton +5
    Higgins +7
    Darcy +9

Podge got a couple of early bogeys in his 4th round to give Walton and Higgins some hope, but then made a great sand save on the 7th when he looked like bogeying and then holed a good birdie putt on the 8th, which pretty much wrapped things up. Didn't finish in style though - put his 2nd to the 18th into the burn in front of the green. Then for his 4th, he totally bladed his wedge and it shot right over the green - it wasnt clear whether it was the little hill at the back of the green or the cameraman who was scambling trying to get out of the way, that prevented his ball going into the long thick wispy stuff behind the green. Fred Cogley said it was the hill, but he would say that I suppose. Anyway Harrington ended with a double bogey, but still won by 4.

I was standing just behind the cameraman and the ball did not touch him he got out of the way in time,it just checked up and rolled back down the little slope and was never going into the deep stuff.Pretty crap golf to be honest,i got more enjoyment following the lesser known pros, some really good ball strikers.
