Is online multiplayer on PS3 as good as MS Live?

I'm thinking of trading in my 360 for a PS3. I was just wondering how the PS3 compares when playing online multiplayer games.

In a game like COD4 for example is it easy to find a game? Are there a lot of people playing games on PSN?

As for online performance, I have never had any issues with the PSN. COD4, WarHawk etc. are all excellent and work brilliantly online.

However, the PSN still has a lot to improve on, before it matches XboxLIVE.

PSN is free. Its 60e a year(Possibly more in future) for Xbox Live.Multiplayer online is excellent on the ps3 considering its free.True, its not quite up to Live yet but its geting better all the time.Just another reason amongst many, to get a ps3

There's absolutly NOTHING wrong with the PSN, it's been the individual game developers finding it hard to adjust to onine gaming!!

PS3 online is comparable to 360 in every way except for player voice interactions. Very few online PS3 gamers have a headset or choose not to use it. I miss that since I stopped using my 360 but on the other hand, you don't have to hear the collection of fools online that the 360 online seems to collect. COD4 is a prime example. I gave up online after a few weeks of listening to them.

The number of free mini games on the PSN home site is poor. Also, you need to pay by card for all purchases. I found the Xbox live system of pre-purchased points safer for online purchases.

Still, the PS3 is reliable and that is why my 360 has not been turned on once since I bought my PS3.

Christ there were two scouser twats on CoD4 the other night. Every second word was "f this, f that, f'ing knobjockey......."

I went in a turned the sound off they were that bad, mind you it was probably about me, I was getting killed a bit :D

Can't see where that logic comes from. Most developers should have enough experience working with PC games online....

Seems a lame excuse to me...

The worst online elements seem to be coming from Japanese developers like Konami (PES2008) but they are starting to get better (after the Metal Gear Online Beta debacle, the finished version is a joy to use!)

With the new film download service that Sony are introducing, as well as HOME this autumn, it is starting to look a lot better for the PSN.

Yes that would probably be the case as Konami have very limited experience with PC gaming online (I believe, I could be wrong).

But yes I agree PSN is well on its way to surpassing XBOX Live (if HOME isn't delayed again).

However does anyone think Sony may charge for PSn in the future?
Say there would be quite an outcry if they did, especially starting it free, especially as PC online gaming has been mostly free for most games for years.
