I need to batch process a load of Sigma raw files from my old Sigma SD10.
Don't want to keep them in their native format in case I have problems in the future opening them. So have decided to convert them to adobe raw for now.

The problem is I have never Batched processed anything before so need step by step instructions. Any suggestions or advice?

    Do you have Lightroom?

If not, get the trial version, import them all, and set to Import as DNG - It's Adobe's universal RAW file, should be around for a long long time.

You can just go in to wherever you've imported them to then.

Adobe have a free stand alone DNG converter as well if you dont want to go the Lightroom route, IIRC it does batch jobs.

Not if you're keeping them within a RAW format, if you're bringing them to JPEG you will.

If you have enough disk space you can choose to have the original file embedded in the DNG, another level of security if you need it.

Can the embedding be done through lightroom ?

Sounds like you're already sorted, but if if you're looking at other conversions I've found UFRaw (free) to be quite OK. I put instructions for going from NEF to JPG here, but you can easily convert to PNG using the same instructions (just replace NEF with your raw file extension, and jpg with png)

PNG is not the same as DNG.

Edit- Preferences- import, there's a check box for embed original RAW file.

True, but the original request was to save old format files for the future. I thought that as PNG was a lossless format it might also be suitable for archiving, as there's no guarantee that the user will have access to Adobe products in the future.

The OP did say he wanted to keep them as RAW though, which PNG isn't, I just thought there was potential for confusion with the similarity in names.

Thank you both for your assistance, It is correct, I want to transfer my old Sigma Raw files to Adobe DNG Raw Files.. As I imagine the DNG format will be supported much longer than the Sigma Raw Format..
