if you import the video file to a music program like cubase or ableton, or a video program like adobe premier or final cut, you can delete the video part then save the audio as an independent wav file.

Audio Hijack on Mac does the job for me for DVD's & things.

You can download it for free from the link below.http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/

Its only a demo, but lets you record up to 10mins "Before purchase, noise is overlaid on all hijackings lasting longer than ten minutes." Sweet!

I'm sure there are some similar "what you can hear" recording programs for windows.

I picked up a cheap external Creative Soundblaster card a few years ago - €30 or €40. Piece of sh!t mind - but it had a sound recorder program on it that let you record whatever you can hear going on in the computer at the time.

Really really cool for recording rubbish on the internet or anything really I suppose - thats why I got it. Very instant.

If you specified an Operating System you'd get more accurate answers. Google "record my sound card" and you should get download links to programs that can record any sound being produced by your soundcard, meaning you'll only need to play the movie and press record to record the audio you hear. XP can do this natively.

Give Audacity a go; just google it, then google 'record soundcard audacity'. Its cross platform. I need to use it in Ubuntu to piece songs together because WINE wont run Reason or let FLStudio accept my regkey. Mehh.

I've been using ubuntu myself recently. It's all new to me. I can't run fruity loops at all on it. There's alot of free software in the add/remove function, pretty cool feature, eh!

Oh without a doubt; new version coming out in August I belive. Which version of FL Studio are you using? I've managed to get FLS8 to run on the latest version of WINE, so theres no reason why you cant either. I just did a straight install like you would in windows and wine just opened up the .exe and WINE took over. The problem is, it wont accept my regkey so it just runs in demo mode.

What I do, is use an open source sequencer like Reaper or Rosegarden and just use the vst's in those. I mean it produces the same result in the end. I'm still going to resolve the issue so when I do I'll post the solution here.

I haven't tried very hard with fl really ,i'll give it another go soon. I've been using 'Ardour GTK2' do you know it? I sometimes get problems with the sound, just doesn't work at times, and with the internet too.

Ardour is a capable DAW, and I keep an eye out for updates but I cant get the sound to work on this version because I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64 on a laptop that doesnt have that kind of processor. I did at one stage have the correct version, but I installed this because I was told by some fool that it might solve my wireless internet issues...it of course, did not. It also wiped Vista along with it. Does anyone know what my chances are of getting a replacement from Parkard Bell/Microsoft if I show them the documentation as proof of purchase? Warrantys well up, though...I can still access the internet through a cable, but thats just completely crap in comparison.

This is something I love: ReNoise. I'd highly suggest you download and play about with it, very shallow learning curve and produces fantastic results, and you can load all your vst's into it and the majority of them will work. I find it very useful for making glitch music. I believe Richard D James of Aphex Twin started out with the likes of this.
