good question. i had to say liffey valley even though dundrum is my local.
value vs quality.... knackers vs snobs :D

I was in dundrum one day and this women with a pram gave me a big "tut" because i was in her way. Maybe she was in my way!

    St Georges Arcade

Cheap books, cds/records, funky clothes. What more could you need?

Lol Liffey Valley is the biggest waste of space ever built. There's feck all in it!

    Blanch ftw.

whichever one allows me to get in, get out and get a starbucks in the quickest time usually does it for me.

    The local indeed, Blanchardstown SC.

Dundrum... you cant beat it, you have every thing from pennys to BT2... i love it and the cinema and pizza hut is so good

    I have to say dundrum

Nutgrove is the biggest kip in dublin... has absolutely nothing in it
Dundrum has a fairly good mix of cheap ... to expensive shops.

I think its really only missing a Miss Selfridge and New Look would do very well also

Good thread by the way :)

blanch as it has a great mix of everything and i love the Mahoosive penneys there :) oh, and becasue they have uci cinema which does butter popcorn mmmmmm

i also like the square as its near work and they have a nice big new look and boots so its handy for a quick shop at lunch

Liffey valley drives me mad I cant fathom the design of it at all it takes an eternity to get from one end to the other especially when its packed and your people dodging all the way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,220 ✭✭✭✭Loopy

Its between liffey valley and Blanchardstown.... Lif Val should have a penneys..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 622 ✭✭✭Solarball10

I like Stephen's Green, also Jervis and Ilac. I don't see what the fuss is about in Dundrum, there ain't that many shops! and most of em are really expensive apart from Penney's and Bershka!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

if Liffey Valley had a Penneys it'd win hands down, mostly because it's only 5 minutes away from me :pac: and it's well laid out

but Blanch gets it for buttered popcorn, the giant Penneys and it's a nice open space.
badly laid out though, it's all really random!

Nutgrove isn't too bad if you're looking for groceries. I used to work there part time for a few years.

I like Dundrum best. I live beside it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭marshmallow

If I lived closer to Dundrum, it would probably win but I don't frequent it. I have to say I like Jervis - mainly for Topshop but it's the most frequented one for me! Possibly Stephen's Green but I think it's pretty crappy!

Good idea for thread alright, dont think it's been done before!

    QFT

If I had to pick I'd probably say Blanchardstown. Liffey Valley is nearest, but as was mentioned it's a total waste of space. I'd only go there for the Boots or Cinema, if I was stuck.

I prefer to go to town to do my shopping if I need to, usually easier to avoid annoying twats, go in early, get what I need and head home again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭KatiexKOUTURE--

Blanch for me... I hate dundrum, was there once and the little half floors really annoy me...

In blanch you know where everything is and it's big enough that you have everything you want but small enough that you don't feel like it's a massive trek to the other side of it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,195 ✭✭✭Corruptedmorals

Liffey Valley for the close-ness, but Blanch has the Penneys..

Also like Stephens Green because it's so pretty..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,326 ✭✭✭pretty*monster

Dundrum's where I'd go if I had to but I prefer shopping in the City Centre.

Dundrum for me, it's got a great selection of shops.

I like Liffey Valley and Blanch but Dundrum wins it for me. Its my second home !!

I worked in Dundrum shopping centre for a few months and I think it is really nice and really sophisticated. The only thing i'd say is that when it is packed you can hardly breathe in the place !!

It could also do with a stand alone Topshop and a New Look. Love the cinema and good choice of restaurants too !!

ilac centre for me,plenty of selection and in the city centre also...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 792 ✭✭✭bigpinkelephant

Blanch is the best, there is something for EVERYONE. Really well laid out too.
Liffey Valley is terrible, completely the wrong shape- takes forever to ge from one end to the other.

Stephen's Green is designed the worst. It's really wide and long but there is no middle space- only these walkway things from one side to the other.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,597 ✭✭✭anniehoo

Its between Blanch (local) and Dundrum (work local) for me...i think Dundrum may just get it..Blanch can be like pram city on a sat aft!

Yes Nutgrove had been going downhill the last few years but it's slowly regaining popularity, what with the new Halifax and Post Office just opened up (and opening more shops very soon). Can't beat free parking. Also places like Dundrum are great but ....the shops are so far apart from each other, it's like an expedition to go shopping. I wonder how much distance you cover in that place.

Some peeps just like to get to Tesco, maybe the pharmacy or penney's and get out - this is where Nutgrove shines.

    Blanch ftw.

I like Liffey Valley! And I live quite close to it so it's dead handy for me to get there. The only thing I'm missing there is a Pennys.
I like Blanch as well though. It has more shops if you are after something particular. And it has a TGI Fridays ;) Both are cool.

I hate Blanchardstown. Last went there last year. Nothing in the place except cheap stores and no decent food.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

Northside - if only for the old radio advert.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭PrivateEye

    Liffey Valley.

Fair enough, Dundrum might be bigger and whatever else- but I live like 15 minutes walk from Liffey Valley. You can't beat that.

Blanch is decent, with most of the good stuff being outside the centre itself (Borders Bookshop is fantastico, the TkMaxx in Blanch is one of the better ones etc.)

    Still, LVs on the doorstep.

Are there any plans to extend Liffey Valley in the future as there is a lot of waste land surrounding it?

Apparently so....or that's what I've heard, maybe somebody knows for certain. the land behind the main centre, opposite the B&Q apparently.

It's about a 20 minute walk for me up the backroad from Palmerstown, it's a handy enough place to have on the doorstep like that. New coffeeshop now too, nice to have something in competition with 'airport p!ss in a cup Starbucks'

Would be great to see it expand in size to double the shops that it has now.

The Square is my local, but that's a skanger-infested cesspit. Dundrum is my preferred shopping centre, but I prefer to shop in the city centre. I used to live 15 minutes walk from Liffey Valley, kinda miss being able to walk to a branch of M&S!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭PrivateEye

Liffey Valley needs to expand though, with Dundrum and other large shopping centres on the cards- not to mention everybody not taking the turn off and staying on the mainroad for Norn Iron. There's a few obvious F'ups in Liffey Valleys selection, the main one being the fact you literally CAN NOT do your food shopping there. Marks and Sparks is hardly a place to do your weekly shopping, and if you go to Blanch/Dundrum/Anywhere else you can do the (important) shopping and the (less important) shopping on the one day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,060 ✭✭✭Niamho!

i picked Blanch coz theres more in it but i'm ALWAYS in Liffey Valley.

i see the Ashleaf got no votes. what a shocker - theres so many shops in it! :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

there used to be signs when lifey valley first opened saying "future site of ______" around that big load of empty space opposite B&Q and other places. I remember one of them was a medical centre and one was a hotel. There's a hotel, but where's my medical centre? :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,131 ✭✭✭MissHoneyBun

Ahhhhhhhh Dundrum. My spiritual home :)

I don't think The Square aged all that well to be honest, and now it's like the ugly sister of Liffey Valley which isn't a million miles away. Not been in about 6 months, may go out to kill a day soon, see if its still a kip... which i imagine it is. Six months and all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

Liffey Valley or Blanchardstown as they are the closest to me.

Dundrum looks good but still haven't made a trip there yet.

The medical centre isn't inside the Liffey Valley site, it's on the other side of the N4.
