Just wondering what would be the best irons to get for a 5-8 handicapper. Money is not an issue so any price range is grand, Thanks

Bit of a difference between a 5 and 8 handicapper.

There is no rule as to whats best, all top manufacturers have clubs tailored towards better players.

Demo some clubs and you'll know quick enough. Ten people will give you ten different answers because it's what suits your individual game and not someone elses.

I'm off 7 and have Titleist 775 cb's, bought in May(ish) last year, I find them very good for my game, good all round, easy to get good contact, nice flight on the ball etc.
Don't know what handicap bracket they were marketed towards, I just found I liked them the most having tried a number of sets in McGuirks in Celbridge, so I went with them.
They were about €600 last year, I'm sure there's a new model out now though knowing Titleist.
Suppose it's just a matter of personal preference though..
    Hope this helped.
Sorry I'm not too technical, I just try to get the ball off the tee

Whats the story with winning the captains John, you've a couple of shots to make up (a bit like myself)

    Pings, Titleist, Mizuno.......take your pick.

Oh and there's not much difference between 5 and 8 ......... a couple of loose chips or putts a round.

I'm off 7, and I have Callaway X-20 tour irons. Very nice feel to them imo. My friend, off 3, has the X-forged, he thinks they are good also.

I would also suggest to you the Cleveland CG-Red.

You should arrange a custom fit lesson with your local pro, he'd know alot better than most :)

Diamond encrusted Callaways. They may or may not work, but at least you'll look pretty slick.

If McGuirks Blanch still have the Mizuno MP33s and MP37s for 499 euro that's what I'd go for. They are an obsolete model but still really nice.

Well if thats the case theres not much difference between 2 and +1 (3 shots every round) which are a world apart.

A couple of loose chips or putts are what loses scores. Its alot easier to go from 8 to 5 or even 4, than it is to stay there.

I know some really tidy 8 and 9 handicappers but you hold a specific handicap for a reason, and thats simply the amount of mistakes you make.

Play off 5 - use Mizuno MP 33s. Thinking of changing to Cobra mb Pros - nicest stick I've held for a while though clubs are very much a matter of personal choice.

    I'm off 8 these days.

Similar to yourself, was looking for irons a few weeks ago with no real budget concerns thanks to a stack of vouchers.

Played more when I was younger off 3 and 4 h'caps mostly but never really likes blades. Had the Ping i3+ Blades (not actually a blade but not offset) which were fine but wanted to change.

Tried about 10 different demo irons. Liked the Callaway X-20 Tours but they seemed to balloon it a bit and have some really bad reviews online if you search.

In the end ordered Taylor Made Tour Burners with Project X shafts (as standard). Can't tell you how much I like them when I tried them.

Another guy I know, off 5, got them and really likes them too. They are chunky enough. You could get Titleist blades and have people look in your bag and go "jaysus, you must be a great player" but if you're like me and prefer something more formidable looking, try the Tour Burners.

Money no object, Get yourself some Miura's, Endo forged TM's or goldplated Honma's.....or you could be practical and just go to foregolf with their Tour truck and get a serious set of custom fit of whatever suits you best, not what a 5-8 h/cap "should" be playing....it should take the question of you ever blaming your clubs again out of the equation.

I've had a set of Titleists for a few years now and love them. Was having a time-killing walk around McGuirks last week though and noticed the new titleist blades... nicest irons i've ever seen! Whether i could hit them is another thing altogether though.

I had a great set of Taylor Made RAC TPs.
Lovely tour iorns, forged heads, the lot.
They were too good for me in the end (I'm off 11) and I had to get rid.
    But for a 0 to 7 h'capper they're ideal.

Agree with the suggestion to go to ForeGolf and get fitted. You will be able to try out and compare different clubs, shafts etc on the spot and find a set most suitable to you.
I use titleist 635CM's off 4 which you might like and they may be good value now that there are newer models available.
