Sligo Sex Tourism

I got stopped in the street this morning by a sex tourist. Yes, you read it correctly - A SEX TOURIST. It was a man in his 70's who told me he was up for the day from Roscommon, that he knew there was a sex shop somewhere in the vicinity as he'd been there before & asked me if I could give him directions, pointing out that he "couldn't just stop & ask anyone". Feeling mildly insulted that he'd considered me a suitable person to ask, I sent him in the direction of Sligo's Red Light District.

Maybe I should set up a Sligo Sex Tourism Board & charge for giving directions. Even with the economic downturn, sex is one thing that always sells. :P

I love that he's clearly losing his memory since he's old and ****, but he still knows that teh sexeh business is important. Also, aren't you a computer nerd by trade? They always know where the best porn is!!!

I was on my way home from training once - a monday evening at around 10, I think, and some Dublin guy who was staying in a B&B stopped me to ask me where all the 'play girls' were... I think I sent him up Crozon direction :pac:

Lolz. In Galway there's a porn cinema. I haven't been (yet).

You'd want to make it snappy if you plan on going - the council are bringing the owners to court soon to get an injunction to close them down as they'd no planning permission for it!

Well, it seems the sex shop industry here is thriving. There's an article in today's Sligo Post about "Sex in Sligo"... a documentary made for TV3 to be aired in Autumn. In it, they interview the owner of ESI - another sex shop in Sligo (that I was unaware of) - in Market Yard.

The owner, who also has a sister shop in Carrick-on-Shannon, says "business is going very well", with their biggest seller being "the crazy rabbit vibrator" and they also do a "big trade on Herbal highs & BB guns".

One can only presume that his client base is rather varied, otherwise, there's a lot of (un)satisfied women running around Sligo, high on herbal pills, toting BB guns, which sounds like a rather bizarre version of a Prince lyric.

Unsatisfied women!!!, there's a dig if ever I saw one. What did you mean by that man?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,165 ✭✭✭✭brianthebard

they should change the paper's name to the smut post tbh. also star, thanks but I wasn't actually planning to go!! I was in galway a few weeks ago and there was a lot of coverage of it in the local paper.

None at all - I like crazy, gun toting women.. especially after seeing "Planet Terror"!
Unsatisfied women!!!, there's a dig if ever I saw one. What did you mean by that man?

I should have said un/satisfied women.. with the big trade in vibrators, presumably the women of Sligo are and aren't getting satisfaction (it's the before & after syndrome!).

Methinks ye doth protest too much (!). I actually heard about it on the Matt Cooper show on Today FM. There was one guy saying it was disgraceful to have such a place near children might be around (like, where on earth AREN'T there children near something?!) while another guy argued against him, saying that he reminded him of Father Ted & Dougal protesting outside the cinema with their "Down with that sort of thing" placards. :D

Why is it that a thread that was started as a light-hearted topic now has "digs" in it?

I'm assuming starbelgrade was being sarcastic when he mentioned the unsatisfied women in Sligo and I laughed at it.

And thanks starbelgrade but now I have thoughts in my head of old men and sex shops. /shudder!

I would be in line to go to that porn cinema even if just for the experience. Although you would be worried about what everyone in the audience is doing wouldn't you? :D

I read about some dogging locations last week. Any good to anyone?

Well seen as business is thriving, I'm guessing the womenfolk are doing just fine.

    +1
I'll be walking round town sneering at little old men now.

Light hearted? I was (as ever), being completely serious. :p

Myself & the missus have recently been racking our brains trying to come up with a goo idea for a business we can run between us in Sligo.. I'm starting to ponder the idea now of a mobile sex cinema.. no planning permission required!!

I read / heard something recently (where, I dunno) about a bloke being arrested for cracking one off in a sex cinema (again, I can't remember where)... so that might answer your worried thoughts. If we did set up the business, I don't suppose you'd be interested in "moderating" the behaviour of the clientele? :D

Oops, I meant to say that we've been "racking our brains trying to come up with a GOOD idea for a business", but I suppose the original post might be just as appropriate, considering the nature of the thread!

You hear the strangest things Starbelgrade. And then you wonder why old men stop you on the street to ask where the nearest sex shop is. Obviously you look like the kind of person who'd be interested in the sex shops! :D

Pay me well enough and I may consider the offer! :D

Butters: [reporting to his mother what he saw when he spied on his father, who was on gay escapades] Yeah, and then he went wrestling.
    Mrs. Stotch: Wrestling?
Butters: Yeah, he wasn't very good, this one guy had him pinned for 15 minutes straight.
    [Mrs. Stotch faints] :D:D:D:D

Shurrup will ya. We're trying to get the Sex Tourists in. Its our only hope to stave of the recession.

Welcome Sherifu, if theres any further information you require may I direct you to Head (snigger) of Communications Takola.

With all the sex trade going on here - from dogging, to male & female escorts, to sex shops - we're certainly doing our best to boost the local economy... amazing that the Chambers have more objections to Argos than they do to our thriving sex industry.

Now if only we could find some way of getting in on the action, we'd be doing well. The financial action that is, of course. :)

Great advert for Sligo, home of Yeats, Westlife, Aine and smut.

It's finally happened - you've gone mad with power and turned your back on the lovely Áine, you used to be her biggest fan...

Also notice how this thread is titled "Sligo Sex Tourism" and we're talking about Áine...?

    Coincidence?

If we told you she was the head of the Sex Tourism Board of Sligo*, would it tempt you to make a visit from Bucharest?

    * = There is no implication in this sentence that she is in anyway whatsover involved with the Sex Tourism Board of Sligo, an organisation that does in fact not at this point, even exist & any implication from Sherifu that she is indeed a "cheeky young thing", is purely coincidental & bears no relation to anyone living or dead and no animals were hurt or maimed in the making of this post.

    Though, I'm not sure if the same can be said for this picture;

Yeah keep your kids at home watching people get shot and murdered is much better than all this unhealthy sex. All our Dutch kids are totally traumatised , we should have watched more violence and less porn!!!!!:D

35 posts (36 if you count this one) in a thread in less than 7 hours. Its amazing - well not really. You see put the word "sex" in any thread and it will generate more than its fair share of activity.

All I can say is that you Sligo folk must be very randy or frustrated or just too close to the sea ;)

And who's fault, exactly, is that?

anyway, I'd wager the sex shop is doing more trade in "tihihi we'll get her this for her hen night" business than anything else. Also didn't Sex and the City laud the rabbit eared vibrator?

The ideas keep getting better! I reckon I'm onto something here big time... all I need is a decent venue to host daily porn screenings, weekly fetish clubs & a once a month swingers club.. then sit back & watch the money roll in.

As for Xiney's question about unsatisfied women & whose fault it is... all I can say is, that as a man, who cares? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Xiney

I'd say men had better start caring... whilst science renders you biologically redundant you might want to, as a sex, consider diversifying into other areas of usefulness.

Otherwise it will be just like the digital camera killing polaroid.

That said, my completely pulled out of a hat estimation is that men in Sligo will probably be some of the last to go extinct, as I hold to my speculation that the sex shops here are mainly doing business to women in novelties and your kind will still manage to flourish and procreate (accidentally or not) in the various night clubs around town for some time.

Is there an indication there that Sligo women are easy?!

Either way, we'll be a long time being made redundant... as the man once said, "have you ever seen a dildo mow the garden?" :D
