I find the last one on the list especially good.

hi, anyone know any good online sites, which may help in teaching guitar??see 1 or 2 on youtube which are quite good for teaching songs.

    a) Be patient, it takes time especially at the start when your fingers hurt like a bitch. Try dipping them in white spirits for 10-15 minutes a day, it hardens the skin around the top and makes it less sensitive believe it or not.

    b) Don't try to do too much too soon, if you set your expectations too high which most people do when trying to learn you will end up throwing the guitar in the back of the wardrobe for the next 3 years.

    c) Enjoy every minute of it. Music is possible the greatest gift mankind has to offer apart from titties and beers. Enjoy every minute. When you nail that first song or solo or whichever you will be on a high like no other and everytime you do it again you will get the same high.

Try and do it in small stages, don't be trying to figure out scales, methods, chords and picking all at the same time. Pick something small every week and stick with it.

While there are hundreds of sites out there such as www.guitarmasterclass.net or youtube. I would recommend starting off with listening to your fav songs and trying to figure out what chords they are playing and where the notes are on the guitar etc, while learning the notes you are also learning to hear what is being played or training your ear!. Try and get a few chords down and strumming before diving into a website...

    Hope this helps...

i bought this course for about 25 to 30 dollars, and i could not have been happier.it has two full books and about 20 chapters in each(all on the computer)each chapter looks at a few new chords a little piece of theory(both in print and small videos) and then a jam track which you play along with(with backround guitar on or off)it will tack you from basic open chords to quite advanced barre chords and most things inbetween, like most of the time signatures,i recommended it to two friends and they loved it as well.best part about it is its like a course(i gave myself one week to do each chapter at the start and the two weeks when it got more advanced, and you really feel like your getting somewhere).there is no substitute for a real teacher but i think for the money you cant go wrong with this for learning the guitar(you can also check out other sites like someone said justin guitar.com highly recommended)

Amazingly, Guitar for Dummies is an excellent starting point, it doesn't get bogged down in theory straight away, and while the songs it teaches you early on are a bit dated, it's does help with technique if you get chords and tab from elsewhere

Could be very bad for your skin, IMHO.

Thanks again Xavi, I'm glad you like my site. I'm a new member here so didn't want to flame the thread, but it's a free site with over 1,700 easy chord and lyrics versions of songs from Beatles & Dylan right up to the latest from Kings of Leon, Fratellis, Weezer, Amy Winehouse, Colbie Caillat etc.

There should be something there to suit most tastes, and the songs are all in a format suitable for the early learner.

    Enjoy your music,

    P.J. Murphy

Good to hear from you P.J.

The site was initially recommended to me by a mate a few years back when I was only starting out. Found it great that I could play my favourite songs with simple chords and it really helped my progression. Made learning that bit more fun!

Now that I'm more advanced I still go back every so often to get few quick and easy tunes for a sing song!

    Keep up the good work.
