I just bought a second hand ludwig supraphonic steel snare drum off my friend.. The drum itself is in good condition but the throw is broken and the butt is missing (I found replacements on the internet). One Problem - the skins are rubbish. I want to buy new skins (for top and bottom) and buy a new actual snare for it. I play rock - all types and pretty much nothing else, and I'm looking for some good quality batter and resonant snare heads that will compliment this great snare (plus an actual snare) can anybody give me some suggestions from personal experiences and reccomend particular models. All help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

pffft its kinda hard to recommend a skin as they all have different sounds/feels thatd suit you..

i guess straight off for rock id recommend an evans power centre on the top skin...

yip I 2nd that EVANS are great. Good value and they wear really well.

One thing though. Replace all the drum heads, not just the floor tom or the high tom. Replace all of them with the same manufacturer. This means that all the heads will have the same tension and sound.

Have you thought about a drum wrap for the kit. If its old it might need a make over with a drum wrap.

    :)
