Power problem with Inspiron 1300 - repairs?

I'm having real trouble with my Dell 1300. Basically when I'm on AC power the laptop doesn't recognise it and runs off the battery.

It's not the AC adaptor itself as I've gone through three now and the problem persists. The AC adaptors keep breaking because I have to bend and fiddle with the lead where the adaptor connects to the laptop.

What I'm asking is where's the best place to get it repaired/fixed? I'm in Limerick and there's a DELL here. Do they do repairs? I read that you can ring up and buy an extended warranty and then wait a few days and get the laptop seen to. Is this true?

Any repairs advice would be much appreciated.

Yeah you can do that, it's not very ethical but meh.

  • Not ethical but the laptop is only a few months out of the original warranty. Can you tell me what number to ring about doing this?

I don't know. I imagine it would be on their website.

  • Yeah I've been to the website. Unfortunately the sticker with my service tag on it has fallen off and I don't know what to do now :(

Go here (http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/emea/shared/support/my_systems_info/en/details?c=ie&cs=iedhs1&l=en&s=dhs) in Internet explorer and click "Find my service tag". If it asks you to install the active x thing, let it. After about 20 seconds it'll give you your service tag.

  • did that thanks :)

However when I go to the Dell Support Warranty Store web page and enter the service tag all I keep getting is a "page cannot be found".

My service tag is DPVML2J ....can someone else try it and see if they get the same error?

It works for me and I can get to the extend warranty page as well.

  • ****, I keep getting a page not found. Sorry about this. Does it allow me to extend my warranty even though its expired? How much does it cost?

It asks for all your details (Name, address etc.) so I put in a load of gibberish and submitted it. I thought it would take me to a page sayinng how much it is, instead it just sent it to a dell representative. He's gonna have a funny day at work tomorrow.

Have you tried clearing your cache?

  • I managed to get to the same page in another wayI think. I don't think I can get an extended warranty because my original warranty expired (can't extend what doesn't exist )...wonder what "upgrade" means/entails?

Nah I reckon you can extend it. Upgrade probably means go from warranty to accidental damage or something.

  • Rang DELL today and they have offered me a 2 year Next Business Day On Site warranty for only around €60.

Am in an internet cafe now and still can't access that page I linked to. Can you tell me what information you entered AlmightyCushion cos when I rang DELL today I think they were calling me Mr Goolagong or something!!:D

No, I think I put the name as Mr Blah Mc Gibberish. The address was 123 fake street.

  • Is 2 year Next Business Day on-site warranty for €57 a good deal? Will they be able to fix my power problem under it? Anybody?
