3 Coverage in Sicily

    Had enough of the Irish 'summer' and am going to grab a quick week in Sicily. I'm with 3 and was wondering had any other 3 customers been there and used their 3 like home facility.

    What's the coverage like?

    Friend of mine is from there but lives in London. He goes back all the time with his 3UK phone and is delighted with its performance in Sicily both as part of 3 Like Home and as a data carrier on the local HSDPA network. I'll probably be talking to him in the next few days and will get more details.

    Data I'm mainly curious about though if I was cut off from the Web for a week it probably wouldn't kill me, probably...

    He has just assured me that it is very good, works better than in UK, something that I concur with having used same the length of the Italian mainland.

    However prior to departure and to avoid teething problems that I had, contact 3 Ireland and make sure that data is provisioned for use while abroad (and not just in the UK, as was often the case).

    Brilliant coverage from Catania, Taormina, etc.

    I fired a tenner into the PAYG account, and used with the N95

    Pity the coverage at home is so crap!

    Customer service really is atrocious with them. Called them to check on data roaming provision as C suggested and was first told that international roaming was on my account and that I would have voice and text coverage in Italy. When I asked about data I was told 'No, you won't have data'! When I pointed out the whole point of '3 Like Home' and said I was under the impression that this covered data too the representative decided to check. Finally confirmed data access would be fine as long as I roamed on 3 using manual network search.

    Said thank you very much and tried to hang up but he continued blathering on about voicemail which I already knew about and didn't ask for information on. Was impossible to get a word in sideways.

    Finally managed to dis-engage - won't be calling there again in a hurry :D
