    55 mins till the deadline!

Which of these courses would offer better employment prospects or would it be much of a muchness?

Focusing on economics the degree's would be much the same would they not?

Or do employers specifically go looking for people in the BESS class because it is sort of recognised as Trinity's main business course?

    Speedy help appreciated! :D

    TIA

Lol, given yourself plenty of time to decide haven't ya... :D

If I had to give advice I'd say BESS is the safer bet. I remember I put down Economics in several TSM combinations on my CAO beacuse I liked it in secondary school. Having just finished first year though my liking for the subject has decreased somewhat so in some ways I'm glad I got BESS and not just Econ in a TSM.

But then again if you like History too, that TSM might be for you.

Thanks Marshy. What sort of subjects do you do now in BESS?

I think I would enjoy the Political / Sociology side but would hate the business parts. But politics/sociology probably aint the best in terms of employment prospects?

Mathsy economics seems to be the only thing thats worth a damn when it comes to getting a highly paid job?

I take the mathys bit of economics as part of a single honours political science degree within BESS> There is loads of inofrmation in the BESS thread. You can dropp Business and Economics after first year.

It is quite easy to switch once you have the points, or it can be given places etc. If you like History I would recommend History absolutely, everyone I knwo who takes it loves it.

If you do do TSM economics you will not be able to drop it till 4th year. If you dont like amths think carefully.

The 6 subjects for first year are:
    Business
    Economics
    Maths/Stats
    Politics
    Sociology
A choice between a language and Law

As it turns out I'm keeping up Economics next year along with Business. I'd advise you to do something that'll interest you and not just to think in terms of money and jobs in the future. It is of course important to bear those things in mind to some extent but if you end up hating the course you get that won't be of much value in the long run.

Just realised I have until 5.15.

Can the really mathsy economics be avoided?

I'm hoping I will take to it, but theres no harm in having a plan B.

i.e. Within the TSM could I pick very theory based subjects and concentrate mainly on history?

Thanks for all the help Marshy and awayindahils.

Remember, it's possible to change course within a college. And lots of people do.

    LOL

Ah, I'll be alright, could probably tranfer to BESS very easily anyway within the first 8 weeks I think.

Go for BESS, if Economics doesn't work out you can drop it and do Sociology and Politics. Also you do about 1 hour of business a week, if that. There's very little Business in first year, it's still annoying but you'll get through it.

The maths in first year economics is just below leaving cert honours, a lot of people have problems with it though.

Then again if you like History go for TSM.

    Alright. Tis done.

I await a flurry of posts at approximately 5.15 detailing how awful the TSM is :)
