    Hi,
I bought an item off e-bay (value €20) from the US in March and it has not arrived.
I e-mailed the seller and he said he shipped it and said I should contact customs in my country and see if they know anything about it ?.

Anyone know how I can contact customs about this ?

Mods - Apologies if this is the incorrect forum, please move if applicable

It depends on whats in the parcel. If its prescription medicine or other non permitted product (many food items) then it is simply binned if found.
If its a standard item such as CD / clothing etc, then customs do not hold it.

In any case it is the delivery company that hold responsibility and you must have a tracking number and mane of delivery company.

Without the tracking number there is no way of finding out about the item.

the other thing is ebayers fob off people with this excuse - open a diapute log with the seller and you may find the item suddenly arrives.

Thanks, It's the latter and it was shipped with regular US post so it is either with the post office here or still sitting on yer mans desk.

    I'll try that dispute log.

Hi not sure how you contact customs but I know value of product if listed on ebay is below certain value definitely 20 euro doesn't meet cap value they will impound it if its above certain value or doesn't have gift of no value on customs docket .Only other reason customs might impound 20 euro product is if its organic product that may be threat to ecosystem of Ireland ,some pharmaceutical drugs .On ebay you should always open paypal dispute with foreign supplier if product doesn't arrive with 4 /5 weeks thats longest any product should take to send an item anywhere in the world even Australia or Hong Kong .If march was ebay listing endtime its probably too late to open paypal dispute but you could threaten seller with negative feedback ,if you find customs haven't impounded product .Sellers no longer can leave negative feedback on ebay to a buyer so you're safe doing this if seller is non responsive within say 1 or 2 week period.Just on by note be careful on ebay as well theres new scam going on where second chance offer comes through on ebay bidders and link in email brings into bogus site to criminals who are involved in identity fraud and credit card fraud ,a rule of thumb when dealing with retailing sites is login to view second chance offers on www.ebay.com and make sure you have website protection built into antivirus suite ,cheers,E

If customs had it they would send you notification of such.

Everything sent by USPS for low amounts never get stopped.

    So it wasn't viagra!!:D

If sent by air - it takes up to 10 days to arrive.

If sent by surface mail - it takes up to 5 weeks to arrive.

Knowing the average intelligence of america (world ends at New York), they have sent it by surface mail, so until 5 / 6 weeks passes it may not be considered lost.

The limitation for a dispute with Paypal (if you used Paypal) is 45 days. For eBay, it's 60 days. Since this was an auction in March, the time has passed and neither will do anything for you.

Your only hope is a credit card chargeback, if you paid with a card through Paypal. After such an amount of time though, they might not be able/willing to do anything.
