Anyhoo, sorry but Paramore are Avril Lavigne-type muck. And Hayley Williams is exceedingly over-rated in the looks stakes. But NME hype... it's always worked. She even looks way younger than 19 - like a little kid. Not sexy. Now Debbie Harry in her prime - that's a woman in rawk who's sexy.

Ehh, all 3 singles I've heard have been about boyfriends/love. Let me set the scenes: 1) Hayley waits until girl breaks up with boy. This happens. Hayley gets boy; gloats. 2) Hayley 'needs something to sing about'. She wants to be 'more than this' with a 'friend'. 3) Hayley messes up with a boy and is sad. More like a romance novel than anything else.

I like Paramore. Saw them in the RDS. Good live. Acknowledged the crowd alot, which is always nice. They are doing well for such a young band.

They seem to be liked in Ireland anyway, their "Riot" album went gold here.

No, I'm talking about the unbridled fawning over Scarlett back then when Lost In Translation was out - and it was completely unjustified. She was so unremarkable looking. Granted, she has got really hot since, but back then, it was just hype. This Hayley Williams thing reminds me of that.

Dudess - would you not be more of the opinion that Hayley, through her distinctive looks (shock-red hair, pale skin) has a better chance of standing out and therefore creating her own appeal.

To be fair, she doesn't appear in many fashion magazines, mostly just music ones, and even then only rock music ones - e.g. you wouldn't find her in Q, hotpress, state, nme etc.. whereas you would find her in Kerrang, who like nothing more than a female-fronted rock band.

In fact the band's management is going to very great lenghts to ensure that Paramore doesn't become the Hayley Williams show.. the band cancelled a tour in the UK a while back because of issues like that.. all four of them want to be taken on their merits as group and not on the basis of how their singer looks - bless their little naieve cotton socks eh?

Nope. I just don't understand fawning over people when they're not that beautiful - that's puzzlement, not jealousy. For instance I'm not puzzled about people fawning over Angelina Jolie, Natalie Imbruglia, Liv Tyler, Scarlett Johansson now as opposed to five years ago, Debbie Harry in her prime, Nicole Kidman - they're stunning, not plain, so their hype is justified.

Got myself a copy of the album to see what all the fuss is about and I had a massive LOL after the first listen.

There are absolutely zero standout tracks and in general it's just more contemporary pop crap that will be passed off as rock.

Some seriously good palm muting though! :pac:

Wow, I must admit I didn't know about Failure until now. I heard their Depeche Mode cover all right a few years ago but just presumed they were an unknown act. They seem great. Must check them out. How happy would they be about being brought to people's attention by an Avril Lavigne-esque act though...?

They were a failry unkonwn act to be honest, never made it very big but have an army of cult followers. Pick up either Magnified or Fantastic planet, their 2 best albums. (the first album 'comfort' is good but nowhere in the same league as those 2 i mentioned).
They also spawned great noise/pop/rock band Autolux as Greg Edwards new band, and Ken andrews is a well known producer nowadays and had a decent solo album or two and a good rock album with his other band Year of the rabbit.
All of which is far more worthy of being listened to than paramore :pac:

They are quiet catchy, I really like them, but I dont take them too seriously. They are what I like to call a bridging band for the kids. They start listening to them or other bands that are quite pop rock and as they get older thier music tastes evolve.. like Sum 41 and Blink did for a lot of teenagers.

She has an amazing voice, you tube the acoustic version she did of misery business, thats the video that first attracted me to them.
