I have just been awarded a 2.1 honours degree (French and Social Sciences) and have no idea where to go from here. Currently i have a summer position as a QA tester for a games company so will have 6 months experiece at that by september. But i don't know what my opportunities are now. I could teach but i'm not sure it's the path i wan't to take. I want a job now and maybe i'll do a masters later but i need money to pay of debt etc etc. Staying where i am now full time is not a possibility because it's mainly seasonal work but at least i have experience working with French and in I.T. Anyway, i've checked many job sites and have applied for many jobs with no reply. I suppose in August there will be many positions available. I would love to get into a trainee position and perhaps work my way up. I see there is many positions in Accounting who seek french speakers but i don't think i could ever get a position in that field.

Aghhh, feel like i've just wasted 3 years of my life at Uni, so confused

I would keep on the tester track if you can. Do a masters in localisation. Then go work in SAP in galway if you can get a job as a localisation engineer. You could do the masters or hdip in the evenings.

That sounds really cool actually. I must look into it. It's very technical thought and i'm not sure i'd be cut out for a masters in it with an Arts degree but i must look into it. I guess any kind of credentials or experience will help me make my way up the ladder.

Edit: I can't believe the only place that offers a masters in localisations is UL. Limerick is miles away :(

I think everyone who went to college thinks that after they graduate.

I mean college was not pointless, I'm sure you made a few friends, had a few fun times, and you can mention the degree on your CV for the rest of your life? but was it worth it overall? THe answer is yes. Because thanks to academic inflation a degree is now the de fact minimum to get a job in your field, unless you happen to have a sparking personality and friends to pull strings.

Ya I did my degree in Limerick. I just finished actually. I would try and make contact with the lecturer in charge of the course and discuss what you would need to know before you start.

The fact that you have experience in the industry would be an advantage to you.
