Assuming you mean controlling DVD/BD playback via your Onkyo IR remote...................thats gonna be hard seeing as how the PS3 doesn't have an IR receiver..
Remote communication via the BD remote or gamepad is Bluetooth..

Its one of the remaining bugbears that some home cinema enthusiasts have with the PS3, so there have been some 3rd party solutions such as the Bluwave Remote (http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-Blu-Wave-Remote/dp/B000R5H7KE)..
But TBH, I personally have no issue around it..

Even with something such as the above, you'd still need to find out the codes all the same..

    Thanks McDermotX,
I guess I'll buy a PS3 r/c, I can work the PS3 controllers, but the other family members may not. I was hoping to avoid the need for yet another r/c which will find it's way on to the floor!!! Makes my blood boil

Get a cheapo IR remote with a USB dongle for the PS3, and teach your Onkyo remote the IR signals from that.
