I'm in the market for a new laptop as my current one has had about enough of my tom foolery. Anyway I'm looking to spend under €1000 and want to know what the best processor to look for is?

Core 2 Duo. Probably the T8000 series or above. That might not be the most cost effective processor but it is one of the best.

Best in what terms - power of battery life?

Not really concerned about battery life just its ability to handle multimedia etc

does that mean heavy gaming? It's very easy to point out the most expensive 2.4+ GHZ dual core processor but there's not much point in spending well over the odds for something you wont need.

Wont be using it a lot for gaming purposes as i do most of that on the ps3!
It'll be mainly used for surfing the web & for college work running programs like adobe audition etc

Intel should be releasing the mobile quads soon but they'll probably cost as much as you've budgeted for your laptop.

Oh yeah it'll be big, hot and eat power but if it's raw power you're after it'll be your man. It'll probably only make it into the desktop replacement laptops.
