I know this thread is going to spark some strange remarks any opinions on Tony Martin after Arc Blues triumph (on him at 14s) personally i think he is one of the best trainers around able to plunder big races average or forgotten horses???

It's a pity he doesn't try a little harder with them all the time and he would get a higher quality horse and get a few more Grade 1 winners. But he isn't interested in that. He is content to pull strokes and will go down as a trainer who never realised his full potential in training top class horses.

mmmmmmmmm valid point, but then look at the prize money he has accumulated with certain horse (leg spinner, dun doire, arc bleu,) to name a few would any other trainer have returned such a profit on a horse?

Depends how you judge success I guess. I have no doubt he is as good a trainer as Meade and Mullins but we will never really know as he very rarely trains a top qaulity horse. From a prize money persepctive, Meade and Mullins consistently hit €1.5m to €2m in prixemoney in Ireland each season. And they get their share of prizemoney at Cheltenham too. Martin normally wins around €400k a year. Last year was an exception when he won €800k. This excludes his forays to the UK. He is obviously a master of pulling the wool over peoples eyes and I don't know why the handicapper bothers anymore or the stewards haven't thrown the book at him. But c'est la vie, I understand he is the type of guy who would never be happy to be a proper trainer and enjoys pulling the strokes more than trainer high class horses. Again, c'est la vie.

He's a gangster, and seems to have joined forces with that other gangster, Dandy Nicholls. The merging of two cheating clans.

I freely admit to being a Tony Martin fan racing needs characters like him and barney curley, Vincent o Brien, many people have forgotton Jim Bolgers is on of the biggest gambling stables out there regulary getting horses handicapped over 6f and 7f and then they are easy 1m - 1m2 winners

I see Martin has a few horses running at Perth today. Would some of the Martin followers care to enlighten us as to which of them are trying and which are blatantly not off a yard prior to the races please?

Tony Martin is only taking advantage of the Irish system, everybody knows his game. Its up to the Turf club to stop him turning our racing into a bent joke. ''Some trainer'', yeah right :D
