Anyone watch this show when they were younger? Hard to believe it was on over ten years ago now. I saw a repeat of it on TV there this morning and I must admit it seemed a lot funnier when I was a kid but I always thought it was good for a Nickolodeon show.

    "Who loves orange soda?" :pac:

I even went to see their movie Good Burger at the cinema as well. Don't tell me I'm the only one who liked this show? :o

I watched it sometimes. Thinking back, I realise that it wasn't good. At all. Kenan was an irritating little shit (except that he wasn't little)
Never saw the film, and have no particular desire to watch it at any time in the near future.

It was quite an acclaimed show for it's time.. and it was very funny during it's fun. I liked to think of it LOOSELY as a 'Father Ted' for kids.. two characters (one who thinks he's smart, one who is evidently not so smart) who every week they'd get in a conundrum but it'd be resolved before the end of the episode with laughs and awkward comedy situations galore.

It was more intelligent than the absolute shíte Nickelodean is producing nowadays such as 'I'm So Raven' (absolutely unfunniest "comedy" you'll see, even kids can't honestly find it funny - see video 1) and 'Zack & Cody In the Suite Life' (this was plastered everywhere while I was in Disneyland and while I'd never punch a child, I'd make an exception for these two feckwits - see video 2).

    Video 1:

    Video 2:

So Kenan & Kel ftw.. one of those rare comedies made for kids that adults could watch and have a giggle at also.

I had never even heard of this till about 5 years ago when it showed up on Nick and the kids were watching. Enjoyed its innocence ( and crapiness ) then. Kids have graduated to the infinitely funnier Drake And Josh now so happy days...

Have caught a couple of episodes of 'Drake & Josh' and I'd disagree that it's "infinitely funnier", it's just that the comedy / cultural references are fresher.

I mean 'Kenan & Kel' was made 8 years before 'Drake & Josh'.. but I would agree that 'Drake & Josh' is probably the best of some of the horrible excuses for series currently airing on Nickelodean.

Yeah I think it relied a lot on situational humour and it was quite goofy at times but I think there was a charm about it. The tuna episode everyone remembers and I also liked the episode where they climb the Sears tower to unfurl a banner declaring 'Kenan loves Brianna', but the end of the banner won't unfurl so it looks like it says 'Kenan loves Brian'. :D

I thought it was an ok show...

Kenan is now on Saturday Night Live, i think he's brilliant on it...

In all fairness, Drake and Josh is pretty good.

Yeah I used to watch Kenan and Kel all the time.

I thought it was pretty good but its been years since I've watched an episode

I used to watch it too. Looking back, it was fairly rubbish.

I remember thinking at the time how clever Nickelodeon were for having the colour orange in everything they made... there was always someone wearing something orange, or using/eating/drinking something orange in every scene.

I have never once thought of that... Hmm, does that mean it was pointless that Nickelodeon did that, seen as how i missed it?

Jebus.. were you Rain Man as a child?

Did you also analyse the political and cultural in-accuracies of Captain Planet?

Did you ponder if the divide in personalities of the Teletubbies was actually a metaphor for the divide between the people of war-torn Germany?

Did you also think that Bosco was actually a quiet nod to communism? I mean all that red.. in one place!

    Tell me DAMNIT! :pac:

You bet. I was the master at playing Snap with my Early Learning Centre deck of cards.

They didn't require analysis - they were profoundly obvious and required no further research.

    Yes. Yes I did.

Bosco and quiet don't belong in the same sentence tbh :p

Kenan and Kel was a great show.

My personal favourite moment was when Kenan and Kel were on that Gameshow where the grand prize was a new house. The only catch was that it was for couples so Kel adopted the persona of Kelly so they could join. Come the final round, they needed to get the final question right to win. The question was "what is Kelly's favourite soda". Kenan lights up and immediately writes down Orange Soda but gets the question wrong. Turns to Kel and just starts shouting at him when he sees that he wrote down Root Beer.

Kel loves Orange Soda, But Kelly loves Root Beer
    Is it true, I do I do I do,oooooooooooooo

Also, Kenan's dad, Roger, was a legend

Keenan and Kel trumps any tv show. Just on the basis that it has Coolio at the beginning. Anyone remember the episode where Keenan moves? So sad ... as a child ...

It's strange as I can't find any thing confirming that Kel is still alive. Snopes says he isn't dead, but that he isn't alive either. Ok, according to his wikipedia he's still making tv shows/movies.

    Zombie!

    /off to forum.

Obviously not dead since he posted a video message on YouTube in September of last year:

I always loved the one where they meet the president.

I love the one where they hold a raffle to fix a hole in their roof, and get a car as a raffle prize. But they ruin the car in the meantime...

    .. oh wait! :pac:

Or the one where they turn Rigby's into a nightclub

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,350 ✭✭✭Het-Field

I loved the one where they mitch school and get held up by robbers in a bank. I recall the dumb messenger guy telling the teacher that they were sick, and for one reason or another he remained in the classroom for the duration of the class. I think they were to sing a song in spanish !

The President one was great. It was hilarious how the Bill Clinton lookalike kept calling them KiKi and Shirona.

I also liked the one where Kel painted a picture called "Sunset-funset" and sold it to a rich guy for a high price . He then painted an array of paintings to auction at Rigbys. He subsequently turned down an offer of $10000 before the auction as Kenan convinced him he would getr much more. It was subsequently discovered that the rich guy bought the painting believin it to be a "Karl Kimball" original.

The one where Kel falls in love with a girl called Becky who they believe is a witch is another great

Who remembers the one where they went to montana, and they were attacked by a bear.

Or the one where Kel is barred form Kenan's house by Roger Rockmore.

Finally, the one where Kenan gets two actors to play his parents in a meeting with the school principle is great !

I always felt sorry for Chris, the owner of the store Keenan worked at. He seemed to live a meaningless existence.

    Keenan's dad ftw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,640 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

How about the one where Kel thinks Kenan's teacher has a crush on Kenan and he looks through the window at Kenan helping her and thinks there's something going on. :D

Also what was the one where Kel is made to sit on a block of ice by Kenan. I always remembered this bit of diallogue:

"Kenan, I can't feel my butt!"

"Why would you want to feel your butt?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

My mam wouldn't let me watch it, she hated it...
I used to watch it as a form of rebellion :D
the episode where Kenan moved away? heart wrenching stuff

good burger is a great movie, I watched it there a few weeks back

Also, a theme tune that was quality. Most people knew some of the lyrics, but I never heard anyone belt it off exactly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

I loved that show. Still do.

The best bit BY FAR was when Kenan had to declare his love for Briana so he unveiled a banner on the top of the Ceares Tower, but it accidently got ripped to reveal "Kenan Loves Brian."

Quality stuff especially when Brian confronted Kenan at the end!

And lets not forget the Rigbys annual Bag-off, with the new import from Baghdad... What was his name?

Oh and the schoolground rumours! at my school it was Kel was dead and Kenan was in a wheelchair. One girl said she saw Kel's funeral when she was in Florida.

Nah, didn't enjoy 'Good Burger' whatsoever.. they made the Kenan & Kel characters too cocky. And made Kel even more irritating!
Also, a theme tune that was quality. Most people knew some of the lyrics, but I never heard anyone belt it off exactly.
Couldn't place it at all until I looked it up on YouTube and found I could then remember practically all the lyrics!

Quite enjoyed this too - so all the episodes I believe and yeah, "Keenan Loves Brian" was a classic. Remember the final episode too, where Kel's parents are revealed to be geniuses and the fact that Kel in between moments of pure idiocy kept mounting on evidence that he was ultra intelligent. And he loved orange soda..

One line in Drake & Josh still cracks me up for its simplicity:

Delivery Guy (at end of transaction): "Have a nice day"

Josh: "Don't tell me what to do".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 420 ✭✭KrazeeEyezKilla

I used to like this show as a child. It had a theme song you could shout along with, which was important when I was 12. I can see the comparison with Drake & Josh which is one of the few Nickelodeon shows now that is isn't awful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Charlie

Just to clarify, Good Burger was never really a Kenan and Kel movie, at least not an extension of the characters.

Before getting their own show, both Keenan and Kel were cast members on a show called All That which was kinda like a kids version of Saturday Night Live on Nickelodeon. One of the regualr sketches on the show was based on the Good Burger premise and characters, and hence the film Good Burger was a movie version of this sketch.

A proper Keenan and Kel movie would have been ace.

Kenan and Kel was better than most of the tripe put out there now on Nickelodeon but I reckon the guys from Drake and Josh could go on to successful SNL careers.

Did anyone else notice how few white people there were in it? The store owner Chris was white and he was portrayed as a loser who lives with his mam and has some Norman Bates/Seymour Skinner tendencies.

The only other white people I can remember in it were the two burglars and the two bumbling cops.

Just seemed a bit weird to me that the only white actors in it were playing characters that weren't really supposed to be liked..... but then Friends had only one black person and one Asian person in all of New York

Did anyone else notice this in Kenan and Kel or was I imagining it?

Ah maybe you're right. I haven't seen it in ages but that was always the impression I got. I do think Chris was meant to be a figure of ridicule though, if not outright disliked.

Fresh Prince had a similar thing alright.

Nah it was postponed til Fri..... eh.... :D

It was just something I noticed in a few shows like Kenan and Kel and Fresh Prince. Don't get me wrong, the last thing I want is the artificial diversity you see creeping into shows now where there is every colour of the rainbow just for the sake of it.

I hate "tokenism" almost as much as I hate racism but when you see a show like Friends set in New York for 10 years and there's about 3 or 4 people who are non-caucasian, it's a little bit odd n'est pas?
