    Normally a '68 GT500 will go for about $100k.

Its a 67 Fastback with a body kit for 85,000 dollars!! Its not even particularly special, its one of eleven, no one knows what scenes it was used for and its an automatic.

I'd prefer the real deal as in the one that was altered for the film. They made it look a bit silly IMO, and as mentioned a stock/original GT500 would be more valuable and thats what they should have used in the film.

    Eitherways I prefer the earlier GT350 ! :D

Can someone explain the attraction of these to me other than their appearance in the film ?

I mean - how many people heard of them before Gone in 60 seconds ?

Do they have a prodigious racing pedigree or something?

I am not knocking them - I just don't know if it was something iconic pre its popular film debut, or if its mysticism comes from the movie ?

a car looking like that is Gone in 60 sconds only but a proper GT350, 500 is the mutts nuts - Caroll Shelby (Le Mans 24 hour winer in an Aston) moved onto the mustang after the success of the Cobra

A gt350/500 is the mustang equivalent of an orginal cooper mini, and we all know how many cooper-look minis are out there

.........you are not telling me you never heard of the Shelby Mustangs ??

The film only had a fleeting reference compared to the cars legendary race pedegree and history !

The original 70's film used a Boss Mustang anyway but if you Google or Wiki "Shelby Mustang" you should get an indication of why they are so loved. Also search for the stories about the Hertz Mustangs that were delivered in black with gold stripes and were rented casually by customers who raced them prolifically at the weekend and delivered them back to Hertz on Monday morning, all washed and chined, but with bald tyres and no brakes ! :D

    This stuff is legendary !!

Ben whats even worse is alot of people have never watched the original Gone in 60 seconds! Blows that Nicholas Cage thing out of the water!

Of course I have heard of Shelby Mustangs and I know quite well who Carol Shelby is, but I don't know why people go on so much about 'Elanora' etc. Did this particular model have a great racing history or something?

Or is it purely because its named in the remake of Gone in 60 seconds, and this is the best the yank movie industry could come up with as a thoroughbred iconic sports car.
(They did have plenty of choice don't get me wrong ).

Don't see the need for an aftermarket tachometer if it's an automatic.

Yeah Kev the original film is more realistic !

Sorry Robamerc, I didn't realise its was the "Eleanor" reference you queried. It was only invented for the film, there was/is no other special Mustang called by that name. All of these replicas are........replicating the film car !

The cars do look lovely but why "tart up" a Shelby when originality makes them more desireable. Thats why I wondered why they didn't use an orginal in the film, you could understand why it was so "wanted" by the collectors then.
