    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for possible short-break destinations:

My budget is in or around 1200 euros travel/accom expenses (paying for a partner also) and a 1000 euro spending each -

We're looking for something fun yet interesting, we don't intend on spending the holiday on a bar stool either. So far our ideas have hovered around Dubrovnik, Cairo or maybe travel by train around a couple of european cities for the week. We thought about New York but the flights are just so expensive & we felt it would be a waste of most of our budget?

Anyone got any ideas that they could recommend or any interesting experience they'd like to share? All suggestions welcome, trying to do this in a budget conscious fashion yet still have a fulfilling experience so we're aiming for a happy medium, but anything goes really!

    J ;)

I'm considering a break around October time so i'm watching this thread for suggestions!

One thing i would say is that Croatia is not going to be warm at that time of year (most European destinations will be the same) so if you are looking for sun then Egypt Africa etc would be a better bet.

I would look at Asia if you have the time for a ten day break rather than a week. Thailand or Vietnam maybe?? I'm only off for a week so can't go too far.

Thanks for your response - much appreciated, Its not really the sun I'm after just something interesting - sightseeing, culture & reasonably cheap accom + food. I'm thinking Europe at this point - perhaps to start in Germany, maybe Berlin & work my way to one or two more countries if time allows, should have 6-9 days for the trip.

You mentioned Asia, would my budget cover a holiday like that? What plans have you got yourself?

Cairo with a trip to either Luxour or the Red Sea would be perfect, everything very cheap and it'll be warm but not in the high 30's like during summer.

Flights to Thailand for around €750 accomodation absolutely dirt cheap, although it will depend on the luxury you require. We payed around €25 per room per night and stayed in really nice places. I would never book a package trip to thailand or anywhere in Asia cause they rip you off on the accomodation. Saw 10 day package trip to Nam for €1900. Could easily be covered on €1000 by booking the accomodation on the net.

I'm thinking of going to Southern Spain. granada, Sevilla, Cadiz etc maybe as far as Southern Portugal. Other option include Biarritz and Northern Spain for a Surf adventure.
Weather will have cooled significantly by the time I go but thats no prob cause I want to do stuff rather than sit in the sun.

So many other places in Asia you could hit like India or Malaysia. My mum is heading to Malaysia on Friday for 18days for about €1200. Mixture of city culture in KL, beaches on Penang island and seeing real Malaysian villages which are quite backward in some ways but are really interesting.

If you are looking towards Europe you should look into some sort of Train journey taking in lots of cities in various countries like Germany, Poland, Denmark, Ukraine, Czech etc. Don't know if you can buy a ticket to do that but it'd be worth looking into.

Good call, I actually intended on suggesting that in my post this morning.

Good mixture of culture / sightseeing and relaxing beaches and diving.
