Hello I am living in Longford and got the local cable installed but it would not work on my Bush tv, so I have to use the video to get a picture on the tv. Would be better if I only had to use one appliance.
Thank you for reading this.

It wont work on your TV? Are you using a scart connection?

your using a TV that was designed for the UK only (UHF only), and doesn't cover all Irish frequencies

Should mention that Longford is still under the 1974 Regulations (i.e regulated network, analogue-only) and the franchise is held by a local operator, Crossan Cable. Thus there is no digital cable in Longford. Nonetheless, the above query would apply to any analogue-only network.

Unfortunately, short of buying a new TV, the "use the VCR tuner" solution would seem to be the cheapest solution to the above.

The Bush TV was sold to me in Argos Longford, such a large company you would think they have known it was only UK TV. Have a scart socket with that is connected to vcr I do get 28 channels just heavy on the esb.
Just want to say thank you for all the replys.

I'd be returning that TV if it's only a recent purchase. Common enough occurrence with the likes of Currys, Dixons etc. Pallet of UK spec TVs find their way over here by mistake.

Bring it back to Argos, it isn't specified for Ireland. This happens quite a lot with many of the UK retailers. UK phones that don't fit Irish sockets and don't accept normal caller ID. I've even seen UK household fuses (for the fuse box) on sale in a large DIY store. They don't fit any known fusebox in Ireland as we have always used German standards for those things.

I even had a store in Cork proudly quote English consumer law at me and claim that it works here (Rolls eyes)

Accept no nonsense from them anyway, just demand a refund. The TV is not fit for purpose as it would also be unable to tune to RTE on VHF which is still on air in some areas.

That's unusual for Argos. While they have always done UK phones with free RJ11 adaptors with the capacitor in, they traditionally wouldn't carry the same range of TVs as UK citing that they would not work.

Check that you don't have to cycle through bands S or C or I, III, H etc to tune the cable. It's likely the UHF is default tuning.

A VHS used a tuner is less electricity than a Sky Digibox in Standby :) It's a small fraction of TV power consumption, especially when the motors are not running.

Yeah but most TVs will tune through all the bands if left on autotune.

You could also look at the spec sheet in it's manual and if you look for the tuner specs you'll probably see something like chs21-69 UHF and nothing else.
That was sometimes the only way I could prove to a customer their TV was the fault and not the cable.

Hello, At last I got the courage with the help of all who got in touch through Board ie. Took the TV back to Argos with success they changed it and the new one takes the auto serch and brought in the channels.
Thank you for all the support.
    Argos the staff were great.
