I want to get a new pre-amp tube, power amp tube and a 6" speaker for my little gretsch amp, hoping to get any opinions on what tubes worked for you and what the difference is between alnico and ceramic speakers.

I want nice cleans with a little breakup as its cranked nothing mad, warm and smooth sounds if any of that makes a difference.

As always I'm completely clueless and eager to learn :pac:

    Cheers

I believe someone had a thread on the Fender Champion 600 recently doing just those same things. The Champion 600 and the Grestch are the same except for cosmetics. :)

I'm clueless when it comes to tubes tbh, I'll leave that to the rest of 'em. :D

I'm getting a Weber speaker for my Champ 600 too. Was talking to Alanstrainor about it the other day. I reckon swap the speaker out and think about the tubes later. The speaker is the real weak link in the Champ.

well the amp kit arrived, and i gotta say it's a definite thumbs up!
seems to give much more presence to the sound, more articulate
also seems to have a more solid low end, much nicer :)
maybe it's the new speaker but the treble is a little piercing, hopefully it'll mellow when it's played in

definitely worth the dosh, takes 15min to put in!

A new speaker does need of bit of "break in" time, it'll warm up just nicely. :)
Post a sound clip or it never happened though!!!!:p

My girlfriend got me the Watford Valves speaker and valve kit for my birthday, it's a massive improvement. You don't get any of that awful mud when it's cranked anymore.

All around frequency response is improved, haven't noticed anything sounding muffled at all.
