    Hi Folks,

I finished up a job in april and was deducted almost 3,000e tax since january 2008

I waited 8 weeks and applied for a tax refund, I have been given just half of this figure..? is this right.? I was expecting more..

also I was deducted tax from september to december 2007 but dont think I got any refund for this..?

I have not been working at all in 2007, not until september.

    Hey

It's hard to make a call on whether your refund is right or not without knowing more on your circumstances (income, tax credits etc). The amound you received doesn't sound unreasonable though.

The easiest way to bury the 2007 issue is to request a Balancing Statement for 2007 (Think its called a 'P21') from Revenue.

Once you get this, check all the figures on it agree to your own records, and that all your tax credits are on it - the usual tax credits are single/married persons credit, PAYE credit, and maybe things like rent credit etc.

They only have processed this tax (calendar) year for the tax refund you received. In addition they will have processed the claim based on the tax credits you have accrued thus far. If you remain unemployed you should be able to make a new subsequent refund claim every eight weeks as tax credits build up.

If you over paid in 2007 so you'll have to fill out a P21 to get a standard tax refund as 'ND 1978' suggests.

Also, if you're on Jobseekers Benefit the taxable portion of it is factored into your tax refund calculation reducing the amount paid.
