    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I recently registered with ACCA having gained 6 exemptions for previous study. Me and my boyfriend are considering moving away to Australia, New Zealand or Canada for a year or more as he is findng it very difficult to find work here, even though he is has an honours degree in manufacturing engineering!!

Anyway, I know that ACCA have centres in the above countries but am wondering if anyone knows wheter I can sit exams there? I am concerned about whether you can work full time in these countries and do exams at the same time. I am really keen to plough ahead with my exams regardless of where I am living.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like a pretty specialist issue.

I would just ring ACCA if I were you, they will sort you out.

ACCA has exam centres in five Canadian cities (Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary), four Australian cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane) and Auckland in New Zealand. You should be able to take ACCA exams in any of these centres. A lot of ACCA students work full time and take their exams at the same time, but whether it's better to spend some time on full-time study is a personal issue.

What I would advise you to research and think about is (a) whether it would actually be possible for you to work in the countries you suggest either for a short time or for the longer term, in terms of visas and work permits, and (b) whether, if you are likely to move permanently to any of these countries, it would be better to take a local qualification, such as CPA in Australia.

Anyway, I agree with the previous poster that you should contact the ACCA for definitive advice: the relevant phone number is +44 (0)141 582 2000, or e-mail on students@accaglobal.com.

    Good luck!

Thanks a mil for the advice. I think i'll have to do a lot of research before I make any big decisions. I really want to do my professional qualifications but love the idea of living abroad for a while. Hope I can do both at the same time.

    Thanks again.

There is no problem doing ACCA in any of these countries. You can even register for an Irish variant tax paper and sit the paper in Australia or Canada or you can sit a local tax paper if you register for the local variant. Tuition may not be as available in some countries, but you can always do distance learning. Make sure you keep your contact details up to date so that ACCA can find you. You will also have access to the local ACCA offices in each of these countries if you need help.
