Just wondering - I'd get a copy of ff7 and nick (I mean swap!) the younger brothers console while I get my fix of nostalgia!

Yes, any PS3 will play PS1 games.

If anything it's a great reminder of how far the console has came.

The 60 gb PS3 will play PS1 games but the 40 gb version will not play them.

As far as I know they will all play PS1 games , substitute PS2 into the above sentence instead of PS1 and it would be right !

Aye sorry about that. Just popped a formula one game in and it worked. Tried Destruction Derby and it didnt work. Maybe its just some games that wont work.

Why hasn't DD been re-released - used to love that game as well.

I was looking at ps1's on ebay, unbelievably cheap. The 360 is boring me right now, roll on cod5!

I have a 60GB and it plays both my PS1 and PS2 games. I haven't tried a newer PS2 game though. It did play my FF7, just remember to make a PS1 internal memory card or you won't be able to save your game and you'll lose all your progress (personal experience).

A good game is still a good game - and FF7 had sweet pre-rendered graphics as well!

EDIT - looking on youtube, came across this

Destruction Derby 1 and 2 work just fine...make sure you are online though when you load it up as it downloads the config files for it ..Otherwise it's too fast and unplayable.
