    Hey guys,

Hopefully one of you can help me on this one.
I'm interested in taking the CEH exam id like to know the following:

*Do I need to go through some sort of application process other than just taking the exam with prometric.

    *Where/How do I sign up?

*Is training compulsory(like the vmware certifications) - Can I self study?

    Any feedback would be appreciated!

    From http://www.eccouncil.org/ceh-faq.htm

    11. Can I purse self-study and attempt the exam instead of attending formal training?

The answer is yes. You must show 2 years of work experience in security related field. You must also submit CEH exam eligibility application and obtain authorization from EC-Council before you can attempt the exam. Please visit http://www.eccouncil.org/takeexam.htm for more details.

Has anyone actually done this course? Anytime it is mentioned in work, or around security people it generally receives alot of abuse.

Sans also do hacking courses. Off to Boston next month on one

It's on my list of things to do, it not worth much in the "Real World" of Pentesting { Ethical Hacking }.

I'd go for a SANS or BT, just make sure you know basic networking and Admin {both Windows and Linux} before you even thing of doing any of these courses.

Also have a look to ISC2 and Mile2:

Look at how many governments/major businesses sign up their employees for the CEH, compared to the Mile2 exams. From what I've read, the US government likes the Mile2 a lot better than CEH.

I remember looked at CEH. It had info, but just that. Didn't seem that good. Had a look into "Certified Penetration Testing Specialist" by Mile2, and it looks better, with more tools, and most important: it looks like it shows you how to use the tools.
