Basically my friend works in this dump that treats people like crap and should be reported

I was wondering if someone made up a new email account with a false name and started sending emails to people is it possible to catch them if they already sent emails from the same computer using there normal email address.

An email was sent into the place where my friend works by a phantom person nobody knows. He thins it might be someone in the company was trying to get him sacked for saying bad things about the company within work

I was wondering maybe there is some way to catch this person. An IP address perhaps. Its just I cant find the IP address on the email

if it was a throwaway email address, unless you've personal connections Gmail, yahoo etc aren't going to give you any info without a court order.

If they sent them from within work, a good sysadmin might be able to tell you who they were, if you're lucky. But to be honest, I'd say theres slim/no chance. Forget about it and find another way to sort the root of the problem out.

Was he saying bad things about the company?

I presume people aren't paying it too much attention then? If the place is such a dump, maybe your frined should just leave. Easier siad than done, I know, but life is too short, etc....

Without a person to back up the claim there is not way for the company to prove its true. For this reason it is meaninglesss, the company cant fire someone based on this.

    There isn't correct.....

If two e-mail's come from the same computer on the same connection (ie. has not changed their IP address) its quite possible to find this out ...

Not at all, unless they were silly to do it from their work or another internet connection where they would be easily found!
If they were at home on Eircom(or whoever), you might be able to find their town, but without friends in Eircom or a court order, they will not be telling you who that person is.
