Did anyone see Sharapova getting knocked out of Wimbledon? Was her opponent good? In the women's game, taking a big scalp seems to be a huge breakthrough. Once a newcomer beats a big name in a Grand Slam there seems to be a very good chance they'll make it into the top 20. I remember Dokic made huge progress after beating Hingis in the first round at Wimbledon. And more recently Petrova and Vaidisova made sudden jumps after big scalps in the French Open. So will Alla Kudryavtseva be a star?

hah i remember that dokic match..! where did she go!?!

saw the highlights on tv last night - sharapova doesn't look as fit as she has - seemed to be making a lot of mistakes. she got one or two bad bounces where the grass has worn away and she had a miserable face on her after that - you know the 'why me? this is the very worst thing thats ever happened in my life or anyone else's...' one.

the other girl seemed ok. but i remained firmly in my seat! Don't think she's the next big thing - but there are so many great ladies from out yonder. She'll prob win the whole thing now that I said that!!

did anyone see the point roddick played at 4-4 in the final tie-breaker?? on his own serve too... was the final nail in the coffin. I think he needs to take a rest and think about what he's done (doing) more.

'I roddick, I hit ball. Ball go fast' Nadal and Federer have really stepped things up - he needs to also

She shot up the rankings to about 5th I think, stayed there for a while and then became shockingly inconsistent for a few years. Similar to Hantuchova at the moment.

Didn't see Roddick getting beaten, from an entertainment point of few it doesn't bode well that Federer and Nadal seem to be widening the gap over the rest of the competitors.

Sharapova has peaked and is on the way down. Too one dimensional.
Ditto Roddick, If he doesn't win the point with his serve or first forehand he doesn't know what to do. He can't win a rally from the back of the court, got found out a long time ago.

Oh right sorry! It wasn't that obvious :)

I think you're right that she is too one dimensional - a sort of Mary Pierce for the 21st century. Though she's not that one dimensional and she's a better overall player I'd say.

Plenty of upsets in both the Mens and the Womens this year, more interesting than usual.

    Agree wholeheartedly.
Unbelievably one dimensional player.Never rated her anywhere near the Worlds best.
Very limited shots wise ,dreadful footwork ,poor technique and awkward.

Definately, she is nowhere near the likes of the Williams sisters in terms of power or consistency, any time ive seen her play of late she has looked out of sorts & fresh out of ideas once an opponent starts out playing her.
