Removing Car Stereo wire from Harness

I need to swap two cables in the harness plug that connects into the back of my car stereo. Its the harness that holds all the power and speaker wires in specific layout.

Does anyone know how to unclip these wires from the harness without damaging any of them so I can re-insert them?

What is the make/model/year of the car and what type of stereo is involved? Why do you need to remove them and what are your concerns in relation to removing the connector?

Its a 96 golf mk3. The stereo in it was the original blaupunkt, verona RCR 45, that came with the car.

I just got one of those aldi stereos on Sunday. They come with a small wiring loom that connects between the cars loom and the new stereo.

when I put it in its resetting when I remove the ignition key. I found articles online that suggest the ignition wire and constant(memory) wire need to be switched.

I looked up the wiring diagram from the car manual and they are the wrong way round for the new harness that came with the radio.

I just cant seem to remove the wires from the original harness in the car to switch them round. I really don't fancy going down the soldiering way but if I have to I will.

If anyone knows if they are even capable of coming out it would help?

    OK.

Look at the connector form the side the wires enter. Each wire has a connector which is retained in the plastic housing by a tab that is part of the metal connection. Now turn the connector the other way around. Insert a suitably sized tool (a paper clip is my preferred tool) to press the tab back which will enable you to remove the wire. Be sure to bend the tab back again so as it retains when you insert it into the new location. It's hard to explain by text only, so hopefully you understand what I mean. Basically, when you insert the connector through the plug a tab engages that retains it by blocking it's passage back through the plug.

Cheers, as usual after messing with it for 2 hours I left it overnight and this morning realised it should be easier to do on the other half of the connection and sure enough after reading your notes had it done in seconds.

Now to put it all back together..

    Have a good day!

There were but they were two different types, one a screw in and the other a clip on (someone thought it was a good idea).

Thankfully all sorted now and working great. Surprised how good the sound is considering its an Aldi(tevion) stereo. Obviously I'm not comparing to high end systems but still impressed for 70euro.

sorry for reviving an old thread!!

any know of any stores that sell stereo wiring harnesses crossovers??

I need one to go from a Pioneer DEH-MP3700MP into a 1998 Nissan Almera

    Wiring digram from Nissan Almera

    Wiring diagram for the Pioneer:

Also I need a new wiring harness for the pioneer....the previous owner cut the wires out of the harness to connect to an old car....(so the wires are all loose instead of in the harness)

Halfords or ebay if there is no sound / ice specialist local to you. They are as bad with prices as Halfords though so ebay may be the best bet.
