There's no two ways about it, the next generation is screwed. Global warming, peak oil, ice ages, world wars, the Jesus come back tour, are all the kinds of things they'll have to deal with*. Millions will die and the survivors will have to work hard and change the way they live to eek out a living without oil.

That's happening regardless of what we do now, sure we could do our best to minimise the damage but we're overlooking the fact we could be the last generation that's resource rich.

Not since the Romans has there been such a decadent society, sex, drugs, waste are all things we excel at, our high jinx will be become legend for the future generations to dream about as they toil in the fields or bore holes in the connemara ice sheets to fish.

I think we should go out with a bang, suck up the last of the oil, drink all the booze and spend all the cancer research moneys on hard drugs. Then conveniently die of a dozen heart attacks when the bill arrives.

Do it for the kids, they need good storeys there'll be no good tv in the future.

    *All to be confirmed.

There is no need to worry, by the time this planet is well and truely destroyed we will have the technology to move en masse to Mars and terraform it into a habitable planet, problem solved.

I don't know about decadence, I do my bit for future generations:

I only wash on a weekly basis now, thereby saving clean water and reducing fuel usage. I also only change my clothes weekly. I don't use toothpaste or soap products because they contain chemicals that kill water fowl and antagonise seahorses. I don't have a car anymore in order to save oil. Instead I now sleep under my desk at work every night. This also saves on the environmentally harmful concrete that would otherwise be used to construct a domicile. I eat everything twice. I avoid speaking loudly (or at all) as the vibrations created by the larynx cause cancer.

    See, it's because I care.

Didn't we already leave there after we fuc*ed that place up a few hundred thousand years ago?

It should have repaired itself by now. If not send a letter of complaint to your local TD.
