Irish Broadband/Imag!ne Merge... Good or bad? More throttling?

Just want to get a few opinions on the merge between the two ISP's, I know threads like this exist already but I want this one to ideally deal with throttling, specifically that of bittorrent.

I switched to IBB/Imag!ne a month ago, and even though I ordered it through IBB, when I got my package details to my disgust I was with Imag!ne, which meant no unlimited downloads. And although I can get my full d/l speed (I'm on 3mbit DSL) with web downloads, I can't with Bittorrent downloads. After numerous phone calls to IBB/Imag!ne, they still catagorically deny that they are involved in traffic shaping/throttling. Funnily enough though, as soon as I set up a VPN tunnel with Relakks, my bittorrent speeds shot up to full speed...

So just discussions on IBB/Imag!nes merge, and if you feel that either are playing with your BT downloads, heres the place to say!

Well all I can say is my speeds have been terrible lately.
I am on a 12 month contract for fixed wireless 3Mb so can expect unlimited downloads to be gone when that's up.
I'm lucky to get 100kbs download on a well seeded torrent lately so throttling must be in place.

Images packages are actually pretty decent compared to Eircom & BT, they offer a large cap increase for 98c a month, something like 50GB which is pretty good

Yah they bulk it up to 60GB for 98c a month, which isn't bad, but if your main source of downloads is BT, and they're throttling the connection, then it'd be next to impossible to hit your original 30GB cap in the first place.

you can still get your moneys worth even when being throttled to 100k,the trick is to set up ur computer so it downloads 24/7 for the entire month and have a list of torrents lined up so a new one starts as soon as the last one stops
I have done this on many a connection and showed others how to do it as well with great results
u have to disable all the power saving/hibernate/screen saver options in windows as well as configuring your torrent client to stop seeding each torrent as soon as downoad completes but by doing this even when throttled to 100KBPS u can still download 10gig per day and if u let it run ur looking at 300gig per month or possibly even more if ur only being throttled during peak hours
just expect a phone call from ur isp if u start doinng this all the time!

I would have one reservation about doing that, the lack of seeding. Seed what you get or the network will die. And besides, if your ISP is throttling traffic, you'd be lucky to get 100kB/s, without using a VPN tunnel I'm lucky to get 10kB/s.

u can seed ur torrents when ur not downloading anything, that will allow u to get ur downloads fast and still keep the torrent world alive
also most packages wont throttle u under 100Kbps especialy if ur not on the most basic package,it would make sense for them to throttle 3meg or faster customers below 100Kbps since they would see the point in having a faster package and would proably downgrade

if a torrent is addequately seeded u should be able to almost max out ur entire bandwidth but ive founnd this to be not the case with a few isps including ntl,3 mobile, ibb.ive heard roumours about bt and digiweb throttling but havent used them personally so wont comment on that
