Got this when it first came out. At first I thought they might just be the next over hyped and diposable darlings of the music scene but the album is still getting plenty of play off me and I think I prefer it now to when I first heard it. Walcott is my favourite track off it with Oxford Comma a close second.

I think there was a thread on them not so long ago in which i posted but will say again that I think they are excelllent.
Saw them over a year ago when they were unknown and they blew me away live, have seen them a couple of times since and they have been equally impressive.
Love the Album, its got a great vibe to it

Heard them on the radio, quite like them.

I see their Album is only 8.99 in one of the CD places on Henry st.

Can't go too far wrong for that.

They're a pretty damn good band, I really like those catchy retro pop songs by them.

I'm just hoping to god that they won't get too bastardized by becoming [insert terrible sensationalist and over hyped publication here] new favourite front page "BEST BAND IN TAH WURALD EVAR!!!!1!!" posterboys.

Ok, off to the indie snob thread with me!

Yeah normally I tend to like much broodier sort of music, but there's just something so easy about this album. Sort of music you could put on and everyone will like it. Anyone know where I could get touring dates for them or if they'll make it to Australia? Have tried google but no luck...

Its a nice fresh sounding album, very good intelligent pop music. Somewhat lacking in logevity though. Got a little bored of it after a couple of weeks.

I've not heard em yet, what type of stuff is it?

Clever pop-rock would be how I'd term it. Punchy kind of music. Check out A-Punk on Youtube for a sample of it.

excellent, I'll defo give them a listen this evening.

Have they had any recent Irish shows/any Irish shows coming up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭Maglight

I wasn't impressed when I heard it first. It sounded too much like so many other bands out there. But they have fiendishly catchy melodies. I particularly like 'I stand corrected', sounds a lot like Biilly Bragg - couldn't believe nobody in RTE picked it up as a soundtrack for a Bertie video montage. 'Oxford Comma' is good too. Damn, there I go humming it again.

It's punchy indie-pop but with a slant you'd expect a few prep school students to put on it. There are amazingly catchy African guitars and bookish lyrics. They've made a really enjoyable record, which stands out from the beige crowd.

Seen them on BBC coverage of glastonbury playing 'Oxford Comma'....bought the album 2 days later. Brilliant.

'Walcott' is definitely one of the songs of the year.

Check out the video for oxford comma, taken in full run with no editing. The americans love them too....not sure if thats a good or bad thing. they were even on the Dave Letterman show!!

Cant wait to see them live...hopefully in the Olympia.

Fantastic Album! And they performed excellently about a week ago in a "secret field".

Complete legends- i believe the term i used to describe them when asked by a radio interviewer was "****ing Astronomical".
I'd love to see them somewhere relatively small... like Whelans. Or even The Academy.

One of my favourite albums this year. Especially like Campus, as it makes me think of a girl from my class in college who I was unrequietedly in love with.

Got the CD early this week, love it.

    Really good band, imo.

Got the CD of my mates monhs ago when it leaked. He wrote the description on it: "eerie, gothic post-modern trance". I looked once at it and didn't put it near my cd player. Only a while back did I realise he was joking.

Think iit's a great 'indie' album. Has enough to set t apart from the norm and enough great songs to carry it off. Two thumbs up from me.

Just back from seeing these guys in Sydney. Pretty good show, they did their entire album and 2 new songs.

Good gig but not amazing mainly due to lack of material. (but some excellent songs thrown in)
Saying that next they come to tour I'll defo go see them.

I was there too. I thought they were incredibly tight, and really looked like they were enjoying themselves which was pretty infectious. Every time the bass player looked at the crowd you could tell he was totally living the dream lol. I agree though, it was a bit short. But for $45 you can't really complain about that. I thought all in all they were excellent.

What did you think of their new stuff? That one with the bassist and the keyboardist alternating their screaming into the mikes was weird. Really liked it though.
