Just wondering what your opinions are on this? Would it be as good as the k800i in terms of relibility?

Also if you dont recommend it what would you recommend instead? Samsung Soul maybe.

Just got one last week having had the K800 for about 18 months. So far no problems. Its sleeker than than the K800 and definitely looks expensive. THe touch buttons are impressive. I was very pleased with the photo quality from the K800 but havent yet tested the K850 enough to see if the pictures are that much better. Image stabilisation is available for all modes.

    Very pleased so far.

Hardware wise, better than the K800i as there is no joystick to go wonky.

Software wise is as good, once you debrand it and get the latest firmware R1FA035 it will run very well.

I have a K850i since December and find it is much better than my previous handset, K800i, so I would happily recommend it.

I bought mine sim free and then put the Vodafone settings into it. Now I cant update the firmware from R1EA031. What am I missing out on by not moving up to 035?

Is yours a Vodafone branded phone? If it isnt then you can upgrade to R1F

No its not Vodafone branded. I bought it unlocked sim free from Expansys. I then loaded Voda's settings into it. If I use the update service in the phone it looks as if its looking for new software and then stops but the version remains R1E. If I use SEUS it tells me I have most up to date software installed. Looks like the Vodafone settings have caused updates to be prevented.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

Ok, dont bother using the Update Service on the phone itself, the firmware is releases on SEUS on your PC a lot sooner.
Putting on Vodafone settings wont effect what firmware the phone picks.
    Whats is your CDA?
From standby, press D-pad right, *, D-pad left 2 times, *, Dpad left, and *. It will bring you the Software info. Post it here.
The CDA is under 'customisation'. Mine is 1202-5694 for UK Western-Europe

Ok im 1202-5694 R5A 1200-5441 R1FA035, so you should be able to upgrade. Try seus again.

I have read alot of reviews about the flash being out of sync and pictures not coming out. Have any of ye experienced that?

And where do I download the firmware?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

Sometimes I get this occassionaly in dark conditions but if if you clean the sensor with a toothpick/toothbrush it can help.
You can upgrade online, must sure you have a fully charged battery !!

Went home last night and tried SEUS again. Again it told me No Update Available. So I uninstalled and reinstalled SEUS and tried again. Same message. I then looked in the phone under Update Service>Settings>Internet Settings and see "Note an incorrect change of internet settings can make the update service unusable Continue?" Continued and see Connect uisng Vodafone Live! Backed out and with great trepidation decided to do a master reset. This I believed would put the phone back to an out of the box state and then I would try SEUS to update firmware and then install the Vodafone settings again.

Tried SEUS again and was again told No Update Available. Still stuck with R1EA031 but now had also lost some pictures, themes and ringtones that were in the phone when I got it. Obviously the reset did this.

Any other ideas on how I can get updated

If you go into Data Accounts what ones are listed?

I see online that someone has upgragded from you CDA
    1202-5694 R7A
    1200-5441 R1FA035
    WESTERN-EURO

The only difference between our phones is the CDA im R5A and your R7A

Where do I find data accounts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,888 ✭✭✭Rsaeire

Main menu => Settings => Press left once to get to Connectivity => Internet settings => Connect using => Data accounts.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 233 ✭✭Pansy Potter

ok there is a list shown under Data Accounts: T-Mobile, Virgin GPRS, Orange, o2, and Vodafone. Vodafone Live is checked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

Thats very strange, you have the uk cda so you should be able to upgrade.
Do you have the sim card removed when your using seus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,168 ✭✭✭leche solara

Im trying to do this with a K800. Should the sim be removed when using SEUS?

It wouldnt hurt to remove the SIM card, before SEUS told you to do it.
I also remove my memory card too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 233 ✭✭Pansy Potter

I have uninstalled and reinstalled SEUS, connected with and without the sim card, and on every occasion SEUS tells me No Update Available You have the latest software. Mysterious!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

Theres no need to keep installing/uninstalling the SEUS as its working.
You just have to wait for your specific CDA and firmware to be available.
If you really want to you can debrand using davinciteam and then do the update, will cost you 10e though, but once you do it, you can use SEUS to get further updates

    --->
On the main page, buy now!! is the link
10 credits is what you need to flash a K850i phone

You will get an email from them, it will have a user name and password in it,
(your username wont change in the future, but the number of credits you have will change depending on how much you use it)

Have a look at their document on the main page it tells you exactly what to do.
    : Getting started ::
    -» Flash A2 / DB3150 Phones

You will need to get the
    K850i Red CID52 1202-5694 R1FA035 CUSTOMIZED UK/ BLUE
(you will see this option in a list in the davinci client)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 233 ✭✭Pansy Potter

Thanks I'll give that a try.
Is it definitely worth paying €10 for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

Difference between R1EA031 and R1FA035 isnt huge, but the phone runs smoother & faster.
So if you consider 10e worth for smoother & faster running K850i then use davinci, theres another one called kulankendi i think it costs 8e.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 233 ✭✭Pansy Potter

Did the business with davinciteam and am now flashed to R1FA035. Did you say there was a 037 available. Where would I get it? SEUS tells me I'm fully up to date.
I dont really see much difference in the phone's performance. Noticed that Update Media is an added option. Auto rotate still doesnt work every time, but thats no big deal.

    Thanks for all your help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

You skipped it by going straight to R1F(as this is the latest), so the next time SE release a firmware update, you should be able to use SEUS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,168 ✭✭✭leche solara

There's a video on You Tube showing K850 with flash themes. I have tried using XS++ to load my K850 with swf files for flash themse, but get told phone is not supported. Is there a new firmware needed for this. I have R1FA035

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

The A200 platform which the K850i has is currently not supported by XS

as im without my emaill and fro some reason i cannont get my email to come through the client

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,265 ✭✭✭MiCr0

what do you mean by gmail being supported?

you can configure the handset to use push (imap) email from gmail.

you can also download and install the gmail application and use that to login and do mail stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

You can use SEUS to update to R1F, even if the phone is locked.
Yes it is worth updating as the phone is more stable and bugs have been fixed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Nemothefish

I downloaded the Gmail Java app to my phone and I cannot get it to work with my phone... it keeps saying Requires a secure Data Connection... i have been talking to Vodafone about this but they dont seem to be able to help me...

cool I will attempt to update myphone.... will it remove all the vodafone stuff???

    Thanks for your help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭billbond4

You dont need the Gmail application, if you goto the Sony Ericsson Site, you can setup the email application on the phone itself.

You may need to download some certificates to get gmail to work on your phone. (im not too sure about this)

Updating using SEUS will keep whatever operator branding is on your phone already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Nemothefish

Thanks.. found the SE site that had settings to download to my phone... still cant get them to work... but it might be just what Im telling the site.

You will have to pay to get it debranded. Either an unlocker or wotanserver or davinciteam.
