We stayed in Camping Butterfly 5 minutes away, the Summer before last - in fact we were there the night Italy won the World Cup - that was some night.
Anyway there were plenty of restaurants which we found to be cheap even some of the fancier ones on the waterfront. The one in the campsite was sit-down with waiter service rather than takeaway and was a of quite a high standard. One of the Italian waiters launched a tray of drinks and pizzas when Italy scored.

We had brought the kids to Disneyland Paris and Europapark in Germany earlier in the trip and thought Gardaland was as good if not better. We were there at about 10am planning to stay till about 6pm but at midnight we were still there and rides were still going so we definitely got our money's worth. There is also a huge market in the town on one of the days - I can't remember which unfortunately but it was well worth a visit. We also took a day trip by train to Venice which is only about 90 mins away. I think it cost about €30 return for 2 adults and 2 kids. Lastly there was also a huge shopping centre about 15 mins drive towards Venice which had some big shops in the retail park beside it. There was one shoe superstore which was enormous - about the size of a large supermarket here. The shoes were cheap and herself bought about 15 pairs.

The mobile home had no AC and it was very hot (even with 3 fans running that we bought)- this is partly the reason why shopping centres were attractive between 12-4pm - the air conditioning. We did meet only a couple of Irish people there and they hit the hotel bars during the hottest time of the day, but we didn't fancy that with the kids in tow. Didn't even know about the museum so can't help you there.

Thanks for the post! The weather looks very hot for the next 2 weeks . We are going with keycamp and thankfully will have AC . Gardaland sounds good! We were in Portaventura last year but the daredevil of the kids wasn't tall enough 140cm for the mad roller coasters. He's well over that now so I'm sure he will enjoy Gardaland.

As for the Ferrari museum it seems you have to get a train to Modena and a bus the rest of the way to Marenello. I usually hire a car for the 2 weeks but decided for once not to bother ! I may have to get one yet by the looks of it . I sure it would be a worthwhile experience just to see the Buggati !

We are going to Bella Italia next month also. We were there last year in May and cant recommend it enough.
Great time to go,People we know have been in High season and it gets packed, plenty of people around in May but not over crowded.
On the food front, there is a Pizzarea that opens in the evening for take aways at reasonable prices and the on site restaurant in grand, but you get the standard fare with chips.
the local town (Peschiera Del Garda) is beautiful and can be reached by a nice walk along the lake, takes about 20 mins and has plenty of restaurants. Be careful of prices, we found eating out to be expensive especially with kids, you can get a pizza for them @ about 6 Euro but a plate of chips (a bowl with about 2 potatoes chipped) can cost about 8 euro?
We took the trip to Venice on the train, station is in the town, but be advised, the kids hated it, too much walking and if you have a child in a buggy, don't go, all the bridges have steps up them. If you do go, bring a packed lunch.
Do hire a car for a couple of days, some of the towns around the lake are spectacular. I would especially advise you not to miss Sirmione and Gard Town.
Gardaland is a must but give the 'Rock and roll Cafe' a miss.

Enjoy, might catch ya for a pint!
