    Hi all,

I'm considering getting this Toshiba Laptop for my Uncle.

He's just gonna use it for web browsing etc. but I wanted something at a good price with 2GB RAM (Due to Vista).

I have rang Toshiba and they said once I register the laptop with them I can return it directly to their Ireland service centre without having to go through dabs if there are ever any problems with it.

Has anybody here ever dealt with dabs.ie - are they pretty reliable (I usually buy from komplett but I've hear of dabs, just never used them) ?

Yep, only bought a hdd from them recently but good price {cheaper than komplett} and prompt delivery.

    See http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055232340

I ran into "insane security checks". I ordered using "verified by Visa" but dabs.ie webaccounts (which appears to be outsourced to a company based in Seattle, though they claim to be dabs.ie) wanted to see a copy of my bank statement complete with account details. I cancelled and ordered from Komplett instead.

Placed quite a few orders with them over the last few months and happy with all of the transactions.

I had only one transaction with them for a hard drive which took almost 2 months to arrive. I won't be ordering with them again. Been using komplett ever since and no problems at all.

I've ordered twice off them. First time, I ran into that security shyte as well because I wanted my package delivered to my workplace. And when the package did arrive, my name wasn't on the parcel. It's a good job I work in a smallish office.

Second time, I paid by PayPal and it worked out better.

    Thanks for info everybody.

I've gone with and ordered this laptop

My status is "awaiting security check" so hopefully it won't take too long.

I paid with PayPal, so hopefully that might speed things up.....

Ordered off them for the first time about a fortnight ago. Stuff arrived 2 days later. Ordered again late last week, hopefully arrives today.

Didn't have any insane security checks but the value was only about €150 each order.

I ordered stuff before christmas, was wondering where it was after 2 or 3 weeks. Turns out we wernt there to take it off them, so they went around the back and just left it there, no note, no nothing. My package USB stick was left in the rain for about a week or so.

So their great, other then some terrible couriers at times

They use GLS for delivery in Ireland, who are notorious for poor performance. It's the reason I won't use Dabs. If they offer An Post as an option, I'd consider them, as their prices are very good on some items (better than Komplett who I normally use). Another thing is the security checks. These are a major problem for some people as they don't really seem to monitor responses to information requests.

I placed the order and now I was just told it take 10 days lead time for all items to Ireland !!

Here's what I was told (on the live chat thingy)
Michael 1453: Your order is just being processed as we speak, you will need to allow up to 10 days before you receive your item however.
    Me: Why 10 days ?
Michael 1453: This is just the lead time for all orders to Eire.
    Me
: Is that a standarsd for all items fto Ireland ?
    Michael 1453: Yes.
Me: Where on the web site does it say this ?
    Me: Hello ??
Me: In you FAQ it says "If you do not require special delivery arrangements, then we will be pleased to ship your order using our standard delivery scheme which will see your goods arrive in approx 2-4 days"
    Me: See here : http://www.dabs.ie/deliverydetails.aspx
Michael 1453: The website should've been updated to say 10days sorry about this.
    Me: I see
Me: Since when has this been policy ?
Michael 1453: I will refund your delivery charge for you as an apology.
    Michael 1453: Many apologies.
Me: I see, it still doesn't get it to me any quick though
Me: I'll have a think about it, I may cancel the order totally
Michael 1453: I will speak to somebody about this matter, sorry

So I may consider canceling totally, as this mean 3 weeks in reality !!

    WTF ???

That's unusual. I've ordered from dabs a few times with no problems. I even get the gear delivered to work. In fact I ordered an Antec Fusion case from them last Thursday and it arrived yesterday.

Yep - seems kinda weird eh ?

I have PM'd "Dabs Manager" on the thread here.
Hopefully he still frequents boards - his profile says "Last Activity : 19-06-2008 12:17"

He might be able to clarify - bugger - his last post says "Sorry I will be on leave for the next 2 weeks and will sort this out when I return."

    Grrrr.....

Was about to cancel the order and contacted Dabs again (via the live chat thingy) and the rep basically told me that the last rep was basically talking crap. Unreal eh ?
I should have it in 3-5 days

I have ordered a few times and have found the prices good.
The security check is annoying but only happened on my first order.
One flaw was the name on the package as mentioned above.
Mine came to the office with only a surname - it's a bit office with a number people sharing the surname. My package did a few laps of different departments before I finally got it. I mentioned this on my last order with them but them seem to have done it again :)

i've mentioned this somewhere on boards before but anyway:

i ordered some things off them with no hassle. then for my third or fourth order i ordered a load of christmas presents, including some things that i getting for friends who would give them as presents.

they sent me an email at the start of december asking me to confirm my name and address which i did. then i heard nothing back for several weeks despite numerous emails. after christmas (after the people got pictures of the things they were supposed to get as presents), i got an email saying my order was cancelled.

i closed my account and never used them again

Has anyone ever purchased a desktop pc from Dabs.ie?

And has anyone ever bought a dabs value refurbished computer?

We need a new pc at work and while we really only use it for email and word processing, I'm considering that one as it's got vista and my boss might want it.

There's also the option of this lenovo with XP Professional, which I'm leaning towards tbh.

    Hello.

It is my first post on this forum :-)

I have just placed an order at dabs.ie I want to buy Mainboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R

For some reasons they want to charge me €22.09 inc vat for delivery cost which means that weight of that mainboard is more than 10kg. It seems to be impossible in my opinion. I contacted their service via on-line chat and I was told that weight of this mainboard is 11.161kg !!!

For me that weight is crazy as for typical mainboard. I asked them about the weight of the other mainboard which is almost the same as the one I'm going to get, I mean GA-EP45-DS3P. I was told that weight of this mainboard is 1.640 kg which sound sensible and delivery cost for this mainboard is €13.50 inc vat

As a response to my suggestion that it may be a mistake in their on-line system I was informed that: " ....weight is given by the manufacturers" End of story.....

You may check delivery cost for both mainboards by yourself.

    Regards
    Tomasz

    Hi Tomasz, the weight
on another site is 2kg, i'd say there system is wrong. Or else the supplier gave them the wrong weight.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've also checked other sites and the max. weight I found was as you wrote 2kg.
The problem is how to convince dabs.ie that real weight is much less than 10kg. I contacted dabs agent twice and each time I got:

" I can confirm that the delivery charge is correct
Is there anything further I can assist you with today?
    ..........."
