Percolation testing Limerick County

Percolation testing in Limerick is an expensive business.
Circa 850 euro for a test. (due to legal requirement of test)
Is there a way of getting an unofficial test so as to get an idea of the soil quality in a number of farm sites. Obviously to do a number of official tests could cost a fortune.

I have heard that septic tanks are what the Limerick council want so if the ground has not got the required drainage requirements it is tough to get planning permission.

    Thanks

If the testing is done privately then you could get the assessor out in advance and have a look around whatever number of sites you have in mind but you will need to have a 2 metre deep trial hole dug on each site.

You will have to make your mind up in any event and theres more to applying for planning permission than percolation tests

any decent tester (list supplied by limerick coco) especially with experience in the area you are looking should be able to give you a fairly accurate indication on visual inspection and desk study without having to dig trial holes this would be entirely reasonable to get one of them to do this, but if the advise is worth making a decision on its worth paying for, watch out for the free lunches

check www.GSI.ie ground water mapping, may help
