Big variation in prices in Irish golf shops

Has anyone else noticed wildly varying prices for clubs in Irish golf shops. I'm talking about variations of hundreds of euros, variations of 100% etc. Eg recently I saw a set of Mizuno Mp33s in McGuirks Blanchardstown for 499, on the same day the same clubs were approx 850 in Golf Works Lucan. Do people actually walk in and pay these prices without shopping around. How do the "dear" shops stay in business. I read on the paper today that Premier Golf is in financial difficulty, well knowing their prices i'm not surprised. Anytime I've been in the Newbridge branch the prices have been just ridiculous. IIRC 449 quid for a Titleist 905T driver a few months after the Titleist D1 and D2 had been introduced.

McGuirks prices can often be better than anything you get on the internet, everyone else seems to mostly list at the RRP. Usually that means there is a lot more of a deal to be done in the other shops so differential doesn't end up being that great..

There can be a big variation between stores. What you will notice however, is that many of the big stores engage in direct competition and price matching with each other. McGuirks tend to set the bench mark. However, very few (that I am aware of) actually charge the RRP. For example, the Ping G10 Driver's RRP according to the Eurozone price list is something like €369. I doubt anyone has ever seen it in a store for anything near that price. It is the small stores that don't bother to go into competition, mainly because they can't afford to, are the more expensive pricers, but there is usually a deal to be done all the same. With regards to the likes of the Mizuno MP-33's it's usually the case where a set is no longer a current model and one retailer reduces it to clear (perhaps due to a rebate on the cost), and another retailer decides not to pass this onto the customer.

according to the article, taylormade have petitioned to have premier golf wound up. TM also petitioned to have Golf Works wound up last month.
Article says that both shops are trying to secure new investment.

Was doing some shopping on Saturday around Santry and was in both Premier and Golf Works. Golf works had hardly any stock of anything worthwhile. Mostly just spurious clubs. Looked to me like it was about to close down. Premier was very quite. Nice selection of stuff but nobody in there buying it. McGuirks still seems to be the place to go...

The Sunday Times piece didn't mention why Taylor Made are looking to have them wound up. I've been in Golfworks a couple of times and their stock and prices are pitiful.

Premier Golf is a superb facility in Santry. Great selection of clothing and decent stock of clubs, but the prices are just too high.

About a year back i was looking at getting a driver and went in. They were charging 399 for a club that McGuirks were selling for 279.

You can get some good deals in McGuirks, especially by bargaining, but at times they can be a little expensive too. As far as shops in Ireland go though they are hard to beat.

I like American Golf, but it's just too out of the way for me in Tallaght. Don't know why they don't move.

The only reason would be to get money they are owed..

For anyone joining the exodus to do their weekly shopping in Newry these days, theres a decent shop out the Warrenpoint rd. Good selection, and while prices were probably nothing special a few months ago, the exchange rate at the mo makes them look very attractive. (At the worst, its an alternative to trailing the Mrs around Sainsburys)

I just stick to my local golf shop in Phibsboro, Plus 4 Golf on the Phibsboro road. He usually has much better pricing than the bigger stores and is very helpful.

I do shop in McGuirks in Blanchardstown a good bit too or else online with http://www.onlinegolf.co.uk.

There was no mention of club fitting when I was there about 6 weeks ago. Just a remark that I might need one inch longer clubs given I'm tall and that would be no problem.

Are you sure they offer it now? Perhaps they've only started doing it recently...

Halfpenny golf are now doing club fitting at a new Golf simulator place
called Golfvision ( also in Airside Bus Park).

Anyone ever seen that add for The Golf Warehouse that's always on the back page of The Evening Herald? Their website, and I use that term loosely doesn't list any clubs but they do have some cheap accessories. I'd just be interested to know if anybody's been there and if it's worth a visit?

I think American Golf are the cheapest in Dublin. I wanted to buy a Taylor Made Burner Draw and went to Mcguirks in Leopardstown. I was nearly going to buy it for €279 but at the last minute felt the guy serving me was so amateurish that I held back from committing. I got back to my car and rang American Golf. Who quoted me €239 on the phone. They were very helpful. I never thought of going to Tallaght because I live in towards town.
I ended up buying some great value lake balls, golf bag and the driver I was looking for originally.
    Very impressed.:):)

Also give Nevada Bob's in Belfast a ring.

If the prices are good then I'll bring them down (I guess that means you'll need to trust me first though).
