What LCD monitor for photography?

Looking at either giving my wife my Samsung Syncmaster 206BW and getting myself something else or getting her something for her new PC, specifically looking at photography etc.

Anyone have some real life experiences with various 20 inch upwards LCD monitors for photo editing?

Budget is limited - so dont think we can stretch to the non TN panel types.

At the moment the Samsung 245 seems to be best value for money.

    Thoughts?

I have a dell 2407 which is not too bad.

At work our monitors got upgraded this week - a hp 20" although I can't recall the exect product code... (could be 2065) - it seems really nice though - better then the dell maybe

Did you google for reviews of the samsung - looks decent from the specs - i like their tvs too...

Done a fair bit of research but always keen to hear peoples own views and experience.

    Thanks.

i think all Dell's Ultrasharp monitors are decent enough... i've the 2005FPW bought in 2006 and it still works like a charm...

easy, must not be a TN panel
look here when looking for one http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php

some reading on different panel technologies: http://www.digital-cameras-help.com/photography/articles/s-pva-panel-lcd-monitors-for-photography/

TN is the one that has less than 90% of visible gammut
as solyad says, the 2407 is quite good as it can reproduce over 100% of the visible gammut

I'm still using a 21" CRT, but it doesn't have much life left so I'm looking for an LCD replacement, the new 2709WFP was released in USA for $999

Told Apple Cinema displays are great. They are widely used in film industry (for photo editing to 3d animation, film editing etc) by most professionals. Its bit pricy though

Thanks for the replies. I dont think I can afford a non TN panel for now. Will need to see what we can do in future.

Apparently apple screens suck - reports of a lot of them dying/having burn-out/issues/etc.

I've 3 screens here, 1 is my dell vostro laptop screen, 1 is an acer AL1916W, and the other is a HP 2207, I love the HP tbh. It's nice and big - easy to see what you're doing.

Now that Im back at work - the hp monitor is an LP2065 and its definitely a step up from the DELL 2407 (although smaller of course)
