    Hey guys.

Up to now I have been pretty much content with my average 7MP dig camera. But now I want to get more into photography. A lot more. So i'm considering purchasing a SLR camera and this is where I have no idea.

What am I looking for? Lens? Zoom? How does zoom measurements work? Make? Model? Do all lens fit all cameras?
I will put away a budget of around six hundred for a average camera with changeable lens. I would like a good zoom on it though.

    Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Try browsing the FAQ section, which may answer some of your questions.

Sorry about the double post but the edit feature doesn't seem to be working for me.

How about this, I will go back and gather the links to all the "what slr will I buy" threads that have been posted in the last 2months, and a mod can place them in a sticky. After that, all questions about buying an slr can be referred to the sticky. The current "what camera to buy" FAQ is really boring and doesn't actually recommend any brand or model of camera.

Or how about posting a huge banner at the top of the page saying "get a 400d for your first camera". It seems to be the most recommended camera for first timers.

What makes you think a newbie will enter this particular thread though. :p

Exactly.. However, I don't think this belongs here. If people want to answer the OP's thread, fire away.

If you want to debate where new camera questions go, start a new thread.

Simple fact is people like to get others to confirm what is or isn't good before handing over their hard earned money, can't blame them.

Just one more thing, the reason it dosn't point out any camera to buy is so it dosn't have to be updated every time a new model comes out, which is every week these days. The posts you go back through from the last 2 months will be out of date within the next month!

    tbh tbh tbh...

Hey king_nothing, I'd recommend a 400d or 450d for starting off depending on your budget (450d is better but costs more $$$$). The 400d going pretty cheap nowadays.

Here are a few similar threads from the last few days that may answer your questions...

That's pretty much answered my main question. Cheers

I've got the 400D myself, still have not figured it all out yet though.

No problem, but you should still have a trawl through some of the links posted here, they've got some info which you may like to read.

I got the 400d for starting off and bottom line - it's brilliant.
