Trooping the (Irish) Colour...

I'm a sucker for a little Military pomp from time to time. I live in France and try never to miss the July 14 military parades. The image of the French foreign Legion with their axes always brings a smile to my face. At the end of the parade every regimental goes to a different part of town and interact with the public until the early evening.

I've just finished watching the "Trooping of the Colour" from last weekend and again impressed with the matching and the brass bands.

But both ceremonies, whether you agree with all that type of stuff or not, is a perfect opportunity to communicate with the general public regarding the military, what they are currently doing and to put a human face on the stories we head from far-away places.

So does Ireland have anything like this? Is there ever an event where members of the Irish public can see the individual members of the Irish Defence Force wearing their parade uniforms and drilling skills? An opportunity where the public can put a face to the UN humanitarian roles that these soldiers play around the world?
