Having some trouble trying to convince my bride to be to have a band as well as a dj for the evening entertainment. She's never been to a wedding where a band has played and is convinced that no one will enjoy it.

Whats everyone else's opinion? Band and DJ or just a DJ?

This is an ongoing discussion over here. In the UK we would have one or the other. As a DJ myself I think both work well. In fact I went to a wedding as a guest last year and they had Irish dancers as well. But I think you can have too much entertainment and people sometimes mainly want to catch up on gossip!

Some bands offer a DJ service included. The only thing I have noticed with that is that one member of the band has to stop playing to set up the gear and then play. It also sometimes is not a good idea as you can get simular songs to what the band has just been playing.

In general it's YOUR day, do YOUR way! Oh congratulations and good luck convincing the OH!

If you do go for a band, make sure it's a good one as it can often be one of the things that people will remember about the night (good or bad). We went for a band and DJ, and they were both brilliant.

By the way, it's sometimes possible to see the band in action at another wedding to see what they will be like. Ask them what weddings they are playing at that would suit you to go to, and they will check with the couple that it's OK for you to stick your head in by the door for a few minutes.
